Chapter 219 Waiting for the Healer

Constance took the invitation and looked it over. It really was in Cordelia’s handwriting, and it was the real thing.

She nodded, satisfied. “This looks fine. Go ahead. If anything comes up, call Julian. Or call me.”

Nora could tell Constance’s attitude toward her had really changed lately.

“Okay, I’m heading out,” Nora said. “See you tonight, Grandma.”

Constance walked her to the car and told the driver, “Drive slowly. Nice and steady.” She didn’t go back inside until the car was out of sight.

Bess took her arm. “Ma’am, you’ve been so nice to Mrs. Weston lately. Have you really changed your mind about her?”

“Julian doesn’t have long,” Constance said. “What more can I ask for? I just want him to be happy in the time he has left and do the things he wants to do. Ideally, he’ll give me a great-grandchild.

“I can’t hope for much else. And Nora really is a good girl. If it weren’t for…” She sighed.

The truth was, she was very happy with Nora. But to save Julian’s life, she’d had no choice but to agree to Cordelia’s terms. Julian and Nora were supposed to divorce after one year, and Constance didn’t even know if Julian had a year left.

“I just think Mrs. Weston can’t hold a candle to Olivia, no matter how you look at it,” Bess said. “She doesn’t even care about Julian as much as Olivia does.

“A couple of days ago, Dr. Vance came by and asked her to go with Olivia to the free clinic, and she said no.

“He asked her to study under Dr. Blithe so she could help treat Julian, and she turned that down too.

“She’s just not sincere. And she’s getting a little full of herself.”

Constance sat down and looked up at her. “Is that so?”

Bess answered, “I happened to overhear it a couple of days ago. I didn’t say anything because I wasn’t sure I should.”

Constance’s tone was cool. “If you know you shouldn’t, then don’t. And don’t listen in on things you’re not meant to hear. Nora isn’t ungrateful. If she said no, she must have her reasons.”

Bess hadn’t expected to get scolded, and she looked embarrassed.

Once again, Cordelia had chosen the Wyndmere for her conference.

Mandy had just reached the entrance when she ran into a few socialites she knew, so she stopped to chat.

“Mandy, you look gorgeous these days. No wonder you’re dating Adrian Pierce. This is the first time he’s ever gone public with a girlfriend.”

“Are you two getting married soon? His family’s one of the Big Four, Mandy. You’d better lock that down

Mandy smiled. “Ace and I are still in the honeymoon phase. We’re in no rush to get married.

“Why are you all standing out here? Aren’t you going in?”

“We’re waiting for a legendary healer. We have to wait right here. Didn’t you see the lobby? It’s full of big names in medicine, people with their own Wikipedia pages, and they’re all waiting too.

“Even Dr. Blithe is stuck waiting in the lobby, and her whole family’s been doctors for generations. That tells you how amazing this healer must be.”

Mandy looked into the hotel lobby. She recognized Cordelia, but she’d hardly ever set foot in a hospital, so she didn’t know any of the other doctors. A few faces looked familiar from the news, though.

“Who’s the healer?” Mandy asked, curious. “Someone even better than Dr. Blithe?”

“No idea,” the socialite said. “My dad just told me to come help greet the guests. If I get a chance to cozy up to the healer, it’ll bring more business to the family down the road.”

Then, she asked, “Mandy, the Wyndmere belongs to Adrian. Are you here helping out as the boss’s future wife?”

Mandy smiled and kept it vague. “Just checking things out.”

The truth was, Adrian had been ignoring her completely lately. When she went to his office, he wouldn’t see her. When she sent him gifts, he had them sent right back.

She’d even sent him a bouquet made of butterscotch candies, a reminder that she was the one who’d saved his life and he couldn’t treat her like this.

But he’d sent that back too. It was like saving his life didn’t count anymore. Even the candy that used to get to him had stopped working.

It felt like Adrian was getting ready to break up with her, and this cooling-off period was her last chance to turn things around.

Being reborn had given Mandy a shot at changing her life, and she wasn’t about to give it up. So when she heard about the conference, she came.

She knew Evelyn Pierce, Adrian’s mother, had been in poor health. In her previous life, Nora had found a top doctor who cured Evelyn.

Mandy knew that doctor would be at the conference today. She’d come to beg the doctor to treat Evelyn and score some points with her.

With that in mind, Mandy said sweetly, “Actually, Ace’s mom hasn’t been feeling well, so I came to find a good doctor for Mrs. Pierce.”

“You’re so thoughtful. You and your future mother-in-law are going to get along great,” the socialite said with a smile. “But forget a good doctor. Go for the legendary healer.
