Chapter 225 A Familiar Face

Galeon knew he shouldn’t let a few words from Nora make him forget everything Cordelia had done for his family, or how she’d raised him.
So he glanced at Nora and made up his mind. He wouldn’t believe another word she said. No matter what, he’d stand by his mentor. With that, he sat up straight.
What’s with him? Nora had no idea what that look was for.
Five minutes later, Cordelia opened the conference as its host. “Thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to join us for our 15th symposium. Today, we’ll be covering two main topics. One is the pan- cancer vascular cell atlas, and the other is the latest research on Alzheimer’s drugs….”.
She ran through a lot of technical jargon and the latest research breakthroughs, and everyone hung on her every word.
Zane was the exception, of course. He couldn’t understand a word of it, and he found it mind-numbing. Sp he propped his head on one hand and turned to stare at Nora.
He realized she was strikingly beautiful, almost aggressively so. And there was something strangely familiar about her, something that made him feel close to her.
Even when she chewed him out, he couldn’t really get mad at her.
He even caught himself wondering if all that yelling had worn her out, if she was thirsty, if he should pour her a glass of water. Or maybe he should hire someone to do the yelling for her so she wouldn’t tire herself
out.
Zane couldn’t believe himself. He had to be losing his mind. He quickly slapped himself on the cheek twice.
Nora heard the slaps and turned to stare at him, totally confused. His cheeks were bright red.
Zane glared right back at her. “What are you looking at? Keep staring, and I’ll gouge your eyes out!”
He was trying so hard to look scary, but to Nora, he looked like a puppy baring its tiny teeth. It was adorable.
She laughed. “Zane, has anyone ever told you…”
“Huh?” Zane looked confused. “Told me what?”
Nora looked at him, completely charmed. “That you’re not scary at all? You’re a total puppy. Really good- looking, really sweet, and super adorable.”
She was complimenting him again! Zane was instantly thrilled, then shy, then flustered, then too proud to admit any of it.
Inside, he was over the moon, but he kept a sour face and huffed. “Like I need anyone to tell me that? I already know.”
Nora was at a loss for words.
Zane scooted his chair closer and lowered his voice. “So you really gave me first aid that day?”

Nora gave him a look. “Yep.”

“You actually know medicine? You’re so young. I never would’ve guessed. You look like a little con artist.”
Nora rolled her eyes. “Are you really this dumb? You can’t tell by looking at me? You look like a little idiot.”
Zane opened his mouth, then-shut it again. Fine. I’m not stooping to her level!
“Have we met somewhere before?” Zane studied her face. She still seemed so familiar.
Nora sighed. “Next time, bring your brain when you leave the house. I already told you. I saved you in the parking garage. Obviously, today isn’t the first time we’ve met.”
“I was out cold that day,” Zane said. “When I woke up, Olivia was there. She used needles on me and put me in the ambulance. I never saw you.”
He kept staring at her. “Either way, I don’t think that was the first time. Did we meet before the parking garage? You look really familiar. Like someone I know.”
But he couldn’t for the life of him figure out who. Maybe he’d just met too many people.
Nora smirked. “Mr. Whitlock, what year do you think this is? Are you seriously still using that cheesy old line? Even with a face like yours, that’s a turnoff.”
“You’re not my type,” Zane said with a snort. “Hitting on you would make me feel incredibly guilty.”
He rubbed his chin and kept staring at her. “Let me look at you and think really hard about who
you
remind
me of.”
Nora was speechless. If that’s not a pickup line, what is? Who I remind him of? So cheesy!
“Oh, by the way, how old are you?” Zane asked.
“Twenty-one.”
Zane’s eyes lit up. “No way! My sister’s 21 too. Are you-”
Before he could finish, Cordelia spoke into the microphone. “And now, let’s give a warm round of applause for our young healer, Nora Sinclair, who’ll talk to us about the pan-cancer vascular cell atlas.”
Nobody in the room believed in Nora, but with Cordelia leading the way, the whole hall broke into loud applause.
Mandy was standing nearby, and she scoffed. “What does Nora know? She can’t even say pan-whatever- cancer, let alone talk about it.
“All she does is brag. She’s about to fall flat on her face and make enemies of every big name in medicine.”
