Chapter 227 She’s Always Been This Good

neurology student racked his brain for everything he’d learned, but he couldn’t come up with an

answer.

Nora didn’t laugh at him. She just looked at him quietly and explained in a cool, even voice, “It combines functional MRI with…”

On that one question alone, Nora covered a whole range of technical terms and concepts none of them had even heard of. It was all cutting-edge. Much of it hadn’t made the rounds in the field yet, and none of it had been published in this country.

“From there, it uses physiological feedback to fine-tune the parameters and stimulation targets, which creates a closed-loop treatment.” Nora looked at the student. “Does that make sense now?”

The student had never expected Nora to actually know her stuff, let alone explain it like an expert. She knew more than he did.

He’d just mocked her for not knowing the terminology, and now it had blown up in his face. He turned bright red. “Yes, it does.”

Nora picked out two more specialists at random and hit them with tough questions. Then, she walked them through the answers with her own insights and expertise.

Each of them got thoroughly humbled and wished they could crawl into a hole and disappear.

Once she’d put them in their place, Nora asked the room, “So, do you still think my speaking up here is a waste of your time?”

“No,” everyone answered in unison.

“Then can I talk about the pan-cancer vascular cell atlas now?” Nora asked.

Everyone looked at her eagerly. “Yes! Please, go ahead!”

After that display, the people who’d doubted her were completely won over. Some of them were even in awe of her.

She had a clear, cool voice, and every word she said rang out crisp and lovely.

When a term was hard to grasp, she’d explain it her own way in plain language, and suddenly it would all click.

Some of them weren’t even thinking about today’s topic anymore. They wanted to ask Nora about the problems they’d run into in their own specialties. They were sure she’d have answers that would change the way they saw things.

Nora glanced at Cordelia, who didn’t look too happy, and smiled. Then, she went on. “Tumor growth and progression are closely tied to the formation of new blood vessels…”

From there, Nora rattled off the latest technical terms with flawless, effortless fluency.

Everyone in the room sat up straight like grade-schoolers, pens in hand, taking notes nonstop. Some were

Zane, who thought these conferences were a total snooze, propped his head on his hand and stared at Nova, completely absorbed.

Cordelia had studied this type of cancer inside and out, but Nora’s insights still caught her by surprise. Before she knew it, she was listening intently and taking notes too.

Over at the conference room door, Miles watched Nora talk on and on in jargon he couldn’t begin to understand. He was dumbfounded.

“Mrs. Weston is that good?” Miles whispered. “Even Dr. Blithe is taking notes!”

Julian couldn’t take his eyes off Nora. Right now, she seemed to be glowing, so dazzling that she felt out of/ reach. And yet that only made him want to get closer.

She shone so brightly that he wanted to tuck her away in his pocket where no one else could see how amazing she was. But he knew there was no hiding a light like hers.

The thought only lasted a second before he pushed it away. He smiled. “She’s always been this good.”

Miles was taken aback. Julian looked so proud of her.

“Sir, you’ve got a problem,” Miles warned. “Look at the way Zane Whitlock’s looking at her. He’s lit up like a Christmas tree. He’s into her. You’ve got competition!”

Julian frowned at Zane, who was sitting right next to Nora, chin propped on his hand, gazing at her like he was in a trance.

“Nora’s beautiful and brilliant,” Julian said. “Of course other men are going to like her. But…”

He lifted his chin, showing off his sharp jawline. “Nora doesn’t go for pretty boys like Zane.”

To Miles, Julian looked like a peacock fanning out its feathers to impress a mate.

Miles was quiet for a moment, then muttered, “But Mrs. Weston doesn’t seem to go for you either.”

The second the words were out, Julian shot him a look so icy that Miles could practically feel a blade at his throat.

He hurried to add, “But you’re her husband! You’re young, you’re handsome, and you’ve got money to spoil your wife. If she doesn’t like you, who else is there?”

Only then did Julian stop glaring and go back to watching Nora speak. Miles let out a breath of relief. His bonus was safe.

But Julian couldn’t stand the sight of Zane sitting next to Nora and staring at her like that. He wanted to be the one sitting next to her!
