Chapter 240 That’s Not Miles
he thinks I really did make Tanya lose her baby?” Nora asked.
Brent squirmed under her sharp stare and nervously straightened his tie. “Well, obviously.

“Sure, Mr. Weston cares about you, Ms. Sinclair. But to him, work obviously matters more. With deals worth billions on the line, of course he’s going to make a little problem like this go away with pocket/change.”
“As for believing you?” Brent gave a scornful laugh. “This has nothing to do with trust, or with whether you actually did it.
“But hey, if you want to think Mr. Weston doesn’t trust you, that’s your call.”
Nora glanced at the glass of water and pressed her lips together. Then, she leaned back lazily in her chair and gave Brent a cool look. “Julian didn’t send you.
Brent was visibly rattled. He stiffened and raised his voice. “Ms. Sinclair, if you don’t trust me, then you don’t trust Mr. Weston.
“He’s a very busy man, and he still took time out of his day to work this out with me. That’s already more than enough-”
Nora cut him off with a cold laugh. “Who sent you? Was it Mandy, or that old witch Cordelia?”
“I already told you, Mr. Weston sent me,” Brent insisted. “Nobody else has anything to do with this!”
Nora just gave him a cool look. “It’s because I trust Julian that I don’t believe a word you’re saying.
“He knows what kind of person I am. No matter how much I hated someone, I’d never hurt an innocent baby or break the law.
“And I trust him. Even if he were swamped, even if his work really did matter more than me, he’d never send a half-baked idiot like you to get me to sign a confession!”
Brent flushed with anger at being called a half-baked idiot, and he slammed both hands down on the table. “Sign it now, and you still have a shot at walking out of here. If you don’t, you’ll be transferred to county jail in 10 minutes!
“Do you really think a pretty face is enough to make Julian Weston drop everything for you?”.
Brent pulled out his phone. “I can call Miles Rowan right now and have him tell you himself who sent me. It was Julian Weston!
“Miles is Mr. Weston’s assistant. You’ll believe him, won’t you?”
Nora watched him dial a number and put the call on speaker.
Brent kept his eyes on Nora as he spoke into the phone. “Miles, it’s Brent Hammond, the attorney. Ms. Sinclair doesn’t believe Mr. Weston sent me here to help her. Would you mind telling her yourself?
“Otherwise, I can’t do my job, and I’ll have no choice but to walk away from this.”

Nora stared at the phone, her eyes clear and sharp. She didn’t know Miles’s number by heart, so she couldn’t tell whether that was really his number. Part of her was afraid she’d hear Miles on the other end, afraid he’d
her Julian had arranged all of this.
Soon, someone picked up. “Ms. Sinclair, this is Miles Rowan. Mr. Hammond is telling the truth. Please do as he says and sign the confession. That way, Mr. Weston won’t have to worry as much.
“You have to think about Mr. Weston and his grandmother. The company already lost $1,000,000,000 on the Orion project. We can’t afford to lose another deal, can we?
“If this keeps up, the board will vote to remove Mr. Weston as CEO.”
Nora didn’t say a word. She just listened. It certainly sounded like Miles.
When she didn’t answer, whoever was on the line started to sound uneasy. “Ms. Sinclair? Are you still there?”
Brent turned to Nora. “There, you heard Miles yourself. So stop kidding yourself that you matter more than the company, and just sign it already. This is what Mr. Weston wants.”
Out of nowhere, Nora let out a cold laugh.
The sound sent a chill down Brent’s spine, and he glared at her. “What’s so funny?”
Nora pointed at the phone. “That isn’t Miles. You really went all out to make me stop trusting Julian. You even hired a voice actor.”
“It is Miles,” Brent said loudly. “Miles, tell her-”
Nora spoke straight into the phone. “Miles, answer me this. Yesterday, how many boxes of condoms did Julian have you buy?”
The line went completely silent. Even Brent grimaced. What kind of question is that?
Finally, whoever was on the line answered, sounding shaky. “O-one box.”
Nora burst out laughing. “Julian never sent Miles to buy condoms.”
Brent had no comeback. He hung up awkwardly and looked at Nora. “I’ll give you five minutes to think it over.” Then, he walked out again.
The heat lamp clicked off. Then, the AC kicked on at its coldest setting with the fan at full blast, blowing icy air straight at Nora.
The sweat on her skin dried in no time, but her damp clothes turned cold in the draft and clung to her body. A moment ago, she’d been dripping with sweat. Now, she was hugging herself and still couldn’t stop shivering.
Brent had said five minutes, but to Nora, it felt like forever. Ever since they’d taken her phone and shut her in this room, she’d lost all track of time. By her best guess, she’d been in here somewhere between three and five hours.
