Nara had known the glass of water they’d left her was drugged too. That was why she hadn’t dared to touch it, even though she was dying of thirst.

What she hadn’t expected was that they’d have the nerve to pull something like this in a police station. Brent had been wearing cologne laced with an aphrodisiac. Stuck in a sealed room with him for hours, she’d had no way to avoid it, and she’d been breathing it in the whole time.

Now, she’d reached her limit. She was barely holding it together, and she was afraid she’d end up jumping Julian right there in the car.

Julian could tell something was wrong. He laid a hand on her forehead. “You’re burning up. I think you have a fever. I’m taking you to the hospital.”

Earlier, when she’d started feeling hot, all the swinging between hot and cold had thrown her off. She’d assumed she was running a fever and hadn’t even considered Brent’s cologne. It wasn’t until she saw Julian and felt a heat she couldn’t push down that it finally hit her.

Nora pulled his hand away. “I’ve been drugged. It’s an aphrodisiac. Hurry, get us to a hotel.”

Her face was flushed, and she was looking at him with hazy, heavy-lidded eyes. She bit her lip and pushed him away. “I don’t want to jump you in a car in broad daylight. Get us to a hotel, now!”

There was no time to get to a hospital. She was seconds from losing it, and if she ended up sleeping with Julian in a car outside a police station in broad daylight, she’d never be able to show her face again.

Julian took one look at her, then quickly got behind the wheel and drove off.

Wren and Ryder had seen it all. From where they stood, it had looked like Nora had hooked her arm around Julian and the two of them were kissing.

Ryder went quiet, his expression unreadable.

Wren was still worried sick. “What a day. How did so much go wrong all at once?”

Ryder tilted his head and flashed her a roguish grin. “Any cousin of Nora’s is family to me, Wren. So I’m driving you home.”

Wren felt a little awkward around Ryder, who acted like they’d known each other forever. “Um, you don’t have to drive me. I can get home on my own.”

Ryder opened the passenger door and waved her in like a perfect gentleman. “It’d be my pleasure to give a beautiful woman a ride home. Hop in, gorgeous. Otherwise, Nora’s going to be mad at me.”

Wren had never joked around like this with any man besides Damon, and it left her feeling awkward and a little self-conscious. “I’m not going home,” she said. “Could you take me to Renora instead?”

“Renora?” Ryder asked.

Wren nodded. “It’s the med spa Nora opened. She was supposed to come by at noon for lunch and see a few clients, but she never showed up. Grandma must be worried sick.”

The whole way to the hotel, Nora had dug her nails into her thigh, using the pain to hang on to what little sel control she had left.

Otherwise, she would’ve been squirming in her seat and reaching over to put her hands all over Julian while he was trying to drive.

She’d held out for the entire drive. But the moment they stepped into the room and the door/closed behind them, she finally snapped. Every bit of self-control she’d been clinging to was gone in an instant.

She shoved Julian back against the wall, pressed herself against him, threw her arms around his neck, and rose up on her toes to kiss him.

“Nora…” Julian barely got her name out before she had him pinned there, kissing him again.

Nora kissed him like someone who’d been stranded in the desert and had finally stumbled onto an oasis. At the same time, she tugged at his tie, but she had zero experience with this. She fumbled so badly that she pulled it into a knot that wouldn’t budge.

She gave up in frustration and went for his buttons instead, trailing kisses from his lips down his neck to his throat.

Julian was breathing hard, and his own self-control was slipping fast. He caught both of Nora’s hands and held them tight to stop her. “Nora, do you know what you’re doing?” he asked, his voice low and strained.

With her hands pinned, Nora rose up on her toes instead and gently nipped at his throat. Then, she answered in the softest, most tempting voice she had. “I’m having my way with you.”

Julian couldn’t take much more of her teasing. She’d found the one spot that drove him crazy. “Do you even know who you’re doing this with?”

He was crazy about her, and she’d just pinned him to a wall, kissed him senseless, and told him she wanted him. No man alive could have resisted that.

But Julian knew she was under the influence of a drug, and she might not even know who he was. He wanted her, but not like this, not while she wasn’t thinking straight, even if she was the one making the first move. He was afraid she’d regret it.

“I know,” Nora said. “Julian Weston. My lawfully wedded husband.”

She still had a sliver of sanity left, just enough to know that she was touching Julian, and that he was her husband.

He was legally hers, and she didn’t mind him one bit. If anything, she kind of liked him. That was why she dared to be this bold. She could do whatever she wanted with him!

With that thought, she let go of the last of her self-control. She kissed her way down from his throat, caught one of his buttons between her teeth, and tugged hard. The button popped open, and she pressed her lips to his chest.
