Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 249

Chapter 249 Out of Retirement

Finished

As soon as Wren came in, Rosalind asked anxiously, “Wren, did you see Nora? Is she all right?”

At her age, she didn’t care much for the internet, so she had no idea what had been trending all day.

Wren knew Rosalind’s health wasn’t great, and she didn’t want to worry her. So she smiled. “Nora’s fine. Nothing’s wrong. She just got busy, that’s all.”

Rosalind gave her a doubtful look. “If Nora’s fine, then why did she call me in tears saying Julian’s dying? What’s going on? Why is everyone keeping things from me?”

“Julian’s dying?” Wren’s eyes went wide. “No way. He was perfectly fine when he went to pick Nora up from the police station. Grandma, are you sure that wasn’t some kind of scam call?”

Rosalind was even more alarmed. “Nora was at the police station? What for?”

“Grandma…” Wren couldn’t bring herself to look at her.

Rosalind swatted Wren’s arm impatiently. “Out with it! What happened? If something’s happened to Nora, it’ll be the death of this old woman!”

Wren could tell this was serious, and she didn’t dare keep it from her any longer. She told her everything

she knew.

By the time Wren finished, Rosalind was furious. “How could some nurse mix up anti-miscarriage medication with abortion pills? Those come from the pharmacy, and nurses have to check and double- check every medication before they give it to a patient!

“A mistake like that can’t be pinned on one nurse. The whole hospital failed! At the very least, everyone from the attending physician down to that nurse is to blame!”

Rosalind stood up, her face twisted with anger. “Cordelia, I’ve stayed out of your way all these years, and you still went after my Nora? If I don’t put you in your place, you’ll really think I’m dead and buried!”

All she’d ever wanted was to live quietly with Nora, far away from all of it. But even so, Cordelia wouldn’t leave Nora alone, and she wasn’t going to stand for it.

For a split second, Wren could’ve sworn Rosalind looked ready to kill. She still seemed kind and gentle, but suddenly, she had the commanding presence of someone used to wielding real power. It gave Wren a start. “Grandma, are you okay?”

Rosalind waved her off, stepped outside, and made a phone call:

She snapped out orders. “Look into the hospital where Tanya Ingram was admitted. I want everyone there investigated, top to bottom! Look it up online. It’s the case trending today, the woman who checked in to save her pregnancy and ended up losing the baby.

“And find out which hospital Julian Weston is in. Send me his entire medical file!”

The person on the other end sounded eager. “Ma’am, does this mean you’re finally coming out of retirement?”

Rosalind gave another firm order. “Tell every pharmacy and supplier we’ve got that whatever medicine my granddaughter Nora asks for, she gets. Everyone is to follow her instructions!”

Ronlind knew her granddaughter. Nora never broke off in the middle of a sentence without a good reason, and from what little she’d said, Rosalind could tell Julian needed azurewort.

Rosalind hung up, and soon, she got word on which hospital Julian was in.

She went back inside to Wren, who looked worried sick. “Wren, go to the Blithe Institute Annex. That’s where they’re treating Julian. Nora’s got her hands full, so keep an eye on her for me.”

Wren nodded, then glanced at her phone. “Grandma, Julian’s emergency is already trending. They carried him out of Nora’s hotel room.

“Now the media’s speculating that Nora slipped him that kind of drug, and that’s why he’s so sick.”

Rosalind waved it off. “Never mind that for now. Keeping Julian alive is what matters. Hurry up and go.”

She needed to head home and make a fresh batch of Clearheart as fast as she could. She wasn’t about to si around waiting for Cordelia. That wicked woman only wanted to use Clearheart as leverage over Nora, and that was never going to happen.

Mandy had spent the whole day glued to her phone, scrolling through the trending topics.

She’d seen Tanya accuse Nora online and watched people tear Nora to shreds. Sure, someone with the username OurLittleTilly had been fighting back against every single comment, but Nora’s supporters were clearly outnumbered.

On top of that, Mandy had been waiting for the police to put out an official statement saying Nora was being detained for further investigation or something like that.

But then, the whole story flipped, and it completely ruined her day. She gritted her teeth in frustration. “Nora’s got the luck of the devil. Even this couldn’t take her down.”

But only half an hour later, a new story shot to the top of the trending list, and Mandy sprang straight up from where she’d been lying in bed.

“Mom! Mom! You’ve got to see this! It’s great news!” She came racing downstairs, still shouting. “Mom, I’m serious, it’s great news!

“Julian’s critically ill! They rushed him to the ER, and the doctors are scrambling to save him!

“Julian’s about to die! The richest family in the city is going under, and my life is finally turning around. Once the Westons are gone, Ace will be the richest man in the city, and I’ll be his wife!”

Nora had just walked in the front door when she heard every gloating word. Her expression turned to ice, and she hurled her purse.

It hit Mandy square in the face. She let out a shriek and went tumbling face-first down the last few steps with a thud, screaming loud enough to blow the roof off.

Yvette had still been trying to make sense of Mandy’s shouting when she heard her scream. She jumped up
