Nara gave Mandy a vicious look. “If she’s dreaming, then somebody needed to knock some sense into her before she says something stupid.

“Lucky for her, I’m the one who heard it. If the Westons had heard her, a little tumble down the stairs would be the least of her worries. They’d rip her tongue out.”

Mandy had been about to snap back, but that scared her so much that she clapped a hand over her mouth, The Westons really would do something like that.

Then, Nora turned to Victor. “And Dad, your old business partners still haven’t come back, have they? Do you want the company to go under for good?”

That got Victor’s attention. He rounded on Mandy and started lecturing her. “You’re a grown woman, and you still can’t watch your mouth? Apologize to Nora right now!”

It was the same old routine. A quick scolding and a forced apology, and everyone was supposed to move on. Nora scoffed and looked up at Victor. “I need azurewort.”

Victor frowned. “Didn’t I just give you some? We only get one plant a year. If you want more, you’ll have to wait until next year.”

Nora kept her eyes locked on him. “There’s none left?”

“None at all. Azurewort doesn’t exactly grow on the side of the road. You’ve known that for years.” Victor gave her a puzzled look. “Why do you need more?

“Isn’t your grandmother doing fine?”

Mandy was still holding her cheek. “It’s probably for Julian. He’s in the ER. It’s all over the internet, so I’m not just making things up.”

She shot Nora a sidelong glance and muttered, “And he was carried out of a hotel room with her. For all we know, she was so desperate that she overdid it with the drugs.”

Nora gave her a cold stare, and Mandy sheepishly shut her mouth.

Julian’s going to die soon anyway. What’s a couple more days? She’d let Nora enjoy herself for another two or three days. Once Julian was dead, the Westons would be finished, and her days of misery would finally be

over.

Victor looked at Nora, not sure whether to believe it. “Is Mandy telling the truth?”

“Yes,” Nora answered coldly. Then, she frowned. “It’s trending?”

She pulled out her phone and checked. Sure enough, photos were everywhere, though none of them showed her face or Julian’s clearly. They only showed Julian from behind as he lay on a stretcher, with a few blurry glimpses of his profile as he was loaded into the ambulance.

The headline was explosive.

At least the post was careful not to name Julian or Nora outright. But anyone who knew them could tell

actly who it was from their builds and that glimpse of Julian’s profile.

The comments underneath were downright vile.

Victor had been reading the posts too. He looked up at Nora in surprise. “You and Mr. Weston really overdid it with the drugs?”

Yvette nearly burst out laughing. “What, can’t Mr. Weston get it up? He needs pills to help?”

A minute ago, she’d been regretting that Mandy hadn’t married Julian. Now that she’d seen the news, she was practically giddy.

Marrying Julian was no prize after all. Nora was basically stuck in a sexless marriage, and she couldn’t even risk an affair.

Sure, she had money to burn, but spending her whole life without a man ever laying a finger on her sounded miserable.

Nora shot Yvette a cold look and sneered. “Not everyone’s as talented as you. You got pregnant with Blake on the first try, and now you’re going at it three times a night. Who knows how many more Blakes you’ll pop out?”

Yvette went white as a sheet and stared at Nora in horror.

Victor frowned. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

Yvette quickly changed the subject. “Victor, Nora’s clearly in a tough spot. Why don’t you just give her another azurewort plant?”

Nora didn’t want to waste any more time, so she asked for the azurewort again. “Dad, if you give me the azurewort, you’ll be saving Julian’s life. The Westons will treat you like royalty from now on.

“And from now on, I’ll do whatever you say.”

To save Julian, Nora was even willing to bow down to Victor.

Victor was tempted, but he looked torn. “Nora, there really isn’t any azurewort left.”

Nora frowned at him, unconvinced. “There’s really none left?”

“None!” Victor said firmly.

Nora stepped closer and lowered her voice. “Dad, you’ve got time to take Kendra to the OB, but no azurewort?”

Victor went pale. He shot a panicked look at Yvette, then pulled Nora aside. “Don’t you dare say a word about that,” he whispered urgently.

Nora just stared at him coldly. “Dad, is there any azurewort left or not?”

She hadn’t planned on exposing Victor’s affair with Kendra just yet. She’d been saving it for later. But since bribing him hadn’t worked, threatening him was all she had left.
