Chapter 254 Wren Fights Back

Finished

Fiona tried to comfort Constance too. “Don’t worry, Grandma Weston. Olivia’s trying to get back as fast as she can. She’s driving to the nearest town right now, and then she’ll head to the next city over and catch the last bus back.

“Olivia’s the doctor in charge of Julian’s treatment. She has her own special methods. She can save him”

There it was again. Everyone was doing everything they could, and yet nobody could actually get here. Constance was seething. It felt like Cordelia and Olivia were holding Julian’s life over her head to get wha they wanted. She was furious, but there was nothing she could do about it.

Constance called Miles. “Miles, file a flight plan for the private jet. And arrange a helicopter to pick Oliv up in the mountains. Get her back here as fast as possible.”

The flight would take over two hours. Getting the helicopter out to the mountains and back to the airpor would take another two or three, and getting the flights cleared would take time too. All told, it would still be six to eight hours.

She ran the numbers in her head, and her spirits sank even lower. She was growing more and more suspicious of Cordelia. Does Nora really have to go begging before Cordelia will save Julian?

Constance’s expression darkened. She looked up at Wren. “Where’s Nora?”

Wren didn’t know where Nora was either, so she couldn’t answer right away.

Fiona studied her expression and speculated on purpose. “Don’t tell me Nora realized she’d gotten herself into serious trouble and someone might actually die, so she ran off? Maybe she’s even skipped the country?”

Wren immediately raised her voice. “No! She didn’t! Nora’s…”

She paused, remembering the look on Rosalind’s face. She had a hunch Nora had gone to find someone who could save Julian. So she said, “Nora went to find another doctor, someone good enough to save Julian. Stop making things up about her!”

Fiona gave her a scornful smile. “Whether I’m making it up or she really did run, you’d know better than I would.”

Wren glared at her. “I never cared how you treated me before. I let it all go. But don’t you dare pull those tricks on Nora, or I’ll tell Damon what a two-faced fake you really are.”

Around Wren, Fiona never bothered to put on an act. She rested a hand on her stomach. “Say whatever you want about me. Good or bad, Damon loves me. He loves me and our baby, and we’re getting married soon.”

Wren looked at the little bump Fiona was so deliberately showing off. She tried not to care, but it still cut deep.

She pressed her lips together, then looked Fiona dead in the eye. “Say one more word about Nora, and don’t blame me if I lose it and do something you’ll regret!”

Fiona was a little rattled by the look in her eyes. She clung to Constance’s arm. “Grandma Weston, look at them. They’re related. Cruelty runs in the family. I’m afraid…”

Constance brushed her hand away. “I told you, I trust Nora. If Mrs. Winter says she went to find a doctor, then that’s what she did.”

Fiona awkwardly pulled her hand back, but she wasn’t ready to give up on helping Olivia.

She turned to Wren. “Fine. If Nora didn’t run off to avoid the consequences, then call her. Ask her where she is, what doctor she found, and whether they can actually save Julian.

“The last thing we need is for her to get Grandma Weston’s hopes up, only to let her down and make Julian miss his best chance at being saved.”

Fiona had worded it so perfectly that Wren couldn’t say no.

Constance wanted to know where Nora was too. “I’ll call her myself and find out what’s going on. If she can’t find anyone, she should just come to the hospital.”

If there was truly no other way, and Cordelia really wouldn’t save Julian unless Nora begged, then Nora would have to suck it up for now. The only question was whether she’d be willing to.

Constance called Nora several times. Each time, the phone rang and rang until an automated voice cut in. “The person you are trying to reach is not available.”

Her frown deepened, and she turned to Wren. “Mrs. Winter, you call Nora, Ask her where she is.”

“Okay.” Wren pulled out her phone, then added, “Grandma Weston, please, just call me Wren. Damon and I are divorced. I have nothing to do with him or the Winters anymore.”

Constance nodded and urged her on. “Hurry up and call her.”

Wren called Nora, but there was still no answer.

Fiona raised an eyebrow at her. “She’s not picking up for you either?”

Wren put her phone away and explained to Constance, “Nora must be busy.”

Fiona jumped right in. “Is she busy? Or did she see that Julian’s in trouble and decide to make a run for it while everyone’s distracted?

“What normal wife isn’t here while her husband’s fighting for his life? Fine, maybe she can’t be here, but she hasn’t even called to check on him. She cares less than the hospital director does, and he’s a total stranger!”

Wren couldn’t argue with that. She had no idea where Nora was or what she was doing either.

“Grandma Weston!” Fiona’s eyes suddenly lit up. “I think Nora’s working with some other man. They’re trying to kill Julian so they can get their hands on the Weston fortune!”
