Chapter 255 The Masked Doctor

Frona was stunned. She’d been pampered her whole life, and nobody had ever hit her like that. And now, of all people, Wren had slapped her.

She slowly looked up and glared at Wren with pure hatred. “You hit me?”

Wren’s hand was still shaking. For a second, she lost her nerve, but she quickly straightened her back. “I told you, stop making things up about Nora.

“Or I won’t go easy on you!”

Fiona was so furious that she wanted to scream. She raised her hand to hit back. “Wren Calloway!”

Constance snapped at her. “Fiona, we’re standing outside the ER. Stop making a scene!”

“Grandma Weston…” Fiona protested.

Constance cut her off. “That’s enough. You don’t have a shred of real proof, so drop it. I trust Nora.

“Whatever happened, we’ll get to the bottom of it once Nora gets here and Julian wakes up.

“Besides, this is a Weston family matter.”

For one thing, she trusted Nora’s character. For another, she wasn’t stupid. While Julian was fighting for his life, she wasn’t about to jump to the conclusion that Nora had cheated on him. That would only turn the Westons into a laughingstock.

If anything, she’d taken a liking to Wren. Wren might be soft-spoken, but she’d still stood up for Nora.

Fiona couldn’t believe it. Nothing she’d said had made a dent. Constance still trusted Nora completely, and that last comment had basically told Fiona to mind her own business.

She was fuming, but she forced a stiff smile. “I was only playing the bad guy because I didn’t want you and Julian to get fooled, Grandma Weston.”

Constance ignored her. She sat down in a chair off to the side and kept her eyes on the ER doors.

Fiona didn’t dare say anything else. She quietly sat down too and waited with everyone else.

She texted Olivia and Cordelia. “Grandma Weston isn’t blaming Nora at all. She still trusts her and keeps defending her.” Neither of them replied.

Wren texted Nora too. “Nora, where are you? Grandma Weston’s waiting outside the ER, and Fiona’s here too, saying you’re the reason Julian’s sick. Grandma Weston isn’t buying it, but if you stay gone much longer, I’m afraid she’ll stop trusting you. Please hurry and get to the hospital.”

But Nora didn’t reply. Wren was getting worried, so she texted Rosalind next. “Grandma, do you know where Nora is? If she comes to see you, tell her to get to the hospital right away.” But Rosalind didn’t reply either.

Wren watched Phil standing by the door, taking call after call and updating Constance on what was happening inside the ER. The silence kept getting heavier, until it felt so suffocating that she could hardly

didn’t help that Constance kept calling Nora every half hour, and every time, nobody answered. Wren watched Constance’s expression grow darker and darker, and her own mood sank right along with it.

Constance tried Nora again, then frowned. “Her phone’s off?”

Fiona perked up. “Grandma Weston, Nora’s phone is off? Why would she turn it off all of a sudden?”

Wren had a bad feeling about this. “Her battery probably died,” she said quickly. “She’s been on the phone/ nonstop, and the police had her phone for a while. She probably hasn’t had time to charge it.”

Fiona gave a mocking little laugh. “Right, no time to charge it. She knows Julian’s in the ER, and she cant be bothered to charge her phone? Isn’t she worried she’ll miss news about him?”

“Fine, so her phone’s off,” Constance said grimly. “Anything could be going on right now.”

When Wren heard that, she started to worry for Nora. Constance was clearly upset, and she didn’t seem to trust Nora quite as much anymore.

Fiona hurried to reassure Constance. “Grandma Weston, Olivia’s already on her way back. Don’t worry. Julian’s going to be fine.”

Constance didn’t respond. All of a sudden, they heard hurried footsteps coming their way. Everyone looked up. Phil was drenched in sweat and out of breath, running to keep up with a doctor in a surgical mask and

white coat.

Only the doctor’s eyes were visible, but there was something familiar about them. Wren thought it looked like Nora, but she couldn’t be sure.
