Chapter 265 Swarmed by Reporters

Phil’s eyes lit up. “Dr Blithe and Ms. Blithe are here! They’re the ones who saved Mr. Weston. Go ahead and ask them anything you want.”
Every reporter turned to look. The moment they spotted Olivia and Cordelia in her white coat, they swarmed toward them like sharks that smelled blood.
“Dr. Blithe, how did you save Mr. Weston? What’s wrong with him?”
“We heard the hospital warned the family more than once that Mr. Weston might not make it, but you still pulled him through. Is that true?”
“Dr. Blithe, can you tell us what Mr. Weston’s condition is? Did he really collapse because of a sexual stimulant? Did he take it himself, or did Mrs. Weston slip it to him without his knowing?”
“Ms. Blithe…”
The reporters shoved their microphones and cameras in front of Cordelia and Olivia, so eager that they practically jammed the mics into their mouths.
Nobody cared about interviewing Sienna, and the crowd nearly shoved her right out of the way.
Cordelia hadn’t expected to be mobbed by the press the second she got out of the car, and their questions were nasty ones. What puzzled her was that they all seemed to think she’d saved Julian.
But she wasn’t about to say anything careless in front of reporters. She just smiled. “I came straight from another hospital, where I just finished a six- or seven-hour heart surgery. I haven’t been involved in Mr. Weston’s care yet.
“Mr. Weston has been saved, and it was a doctor friend of mine from the Caduceus Order who did it. I called in a personal favor to get him here.
“Mr. Weston’s condition is very serious. He’s only out of danger for the moment, and he’ll still need a special medication before he’s truly in the clear. However…”
Cordelia paused before she went on. “However, Mr. Weston’s illness goes all the way back to his childhood, and its causes are complicated. He could have another attack at any time, and the medication might not work as well then. What he’d really need is a serum that gets rid of the underlying cause.
“As for what caused this attack, I’m not a member of the family, and I don’t know the details. It’s not my place to say.”
She pointed at Sienna. “You can ask her. She’s a Weston. She’d know a lot more about it than I would.”
Every camera and microphone swung toward Sienna at once.
“Ms. Weston, did Mr. Weston really collapse because of a sexual stimulant? Did he take it himself, or did his wife slip it to him?”
“Was it an overdose, or something else? Do the two of them need drugs to have sex?”

The questions got blunter and more shameless with every round. Given the chance, the reporters would have broadcast the sex life of the city’s richest couple live on atr.
Sienna didn’t like Nora, and she was still smarting from Constance’s scolding. Before she could stop herself, she blurted out, “Of course it was that woman…”
Halfway through, Constance’s warning came back to her. If she said one more bad word about Nora, she’d be thrown off the Weston estate. That would be the same as being cut out of the family. She’d lose her dividends and everything else, and she’d be nobody.
So for the sake of her dividends, Sienna backed down and forced a smile. “Of course I trust that woman. You reporters don’t know the truth, so stop guessing and making things up. If you print anything that isn’t true, we’ll sue your companies.”
Cordelia and Olivia both turned to stare at Sienna in surprise. They knew Sienna. She should have come right out and said Nora drugged him, then torn into Nora in front of the cameras. Instead, she was standing up for Nora and claiming to trust her.
The reporters were getting nowhere with Sienna, so they turned back to Cordelia. “Dr. Blithe, from a medical standpoint, did Mr. Weston’s attack come from a sexual stimulant, or was it some other health problem?”
Cordelia had no choice but to answer herself. “I looked over Mr. Weston’s test results on the way here.
“Based on the numbers, the attack really was caused by some kind of sexual stimulant. Whether he took it himself or someone slipped it to him, I couldn’t tell you.
“My job is to save lives. Now, excuse me, please let me through. I have a patient to see.”
One reporter kept after her. “Dr. Blithe, you said he needs a special medication. Did you bring it with you this time? Will Mr. Weston be able to go home soon after he takes it?”
“I just got out of surgery, so I didn’t bring it,” Cordelia said. “But a friend of mine, a very fine doctor, will be bringing it shortly.”
With that, she strode ahead, shooting Phil a look on her way past.
Phil thought calling in the press had been a stroke of genius. He’d caught Cordelia’s eye, and she’d remember him now. He grinned from ear to ear.
One reporter stood with her back to the hospital entrance so the camera could catch Cordelia and the others behind her.
