Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 276

Chapter 276 A Side He’d Never Seen

Nora laid Constance down on the cot and-tucked a blanket around her. Then, she turned to Bess. “She’s been up all day, and it’s late I just pressed a couple of spots to help her drift off. She needs the sleep.”

Bess let out a breath. “Oh. I see.”

Nora raised an eyebrow. “Bess, you seem to have a bit of a problem with me.”

Bess kept her head down. “I’m just a maid. I look after Mrs. Constance Weston, You’re the lady of the house now, the one who signs my paychecks. Why would I have a problem with you?”

Nora said lightly, “Good. Glad we understand each other.”

Her tone was mild, but Bess felt the weight of it bearing down on her. She broke out in a cold sweat and felt like she ought to say something.

Nora didn’t even look at her. She picked up a bottle of water and tipped her head back to swallow some fever medicine. “You should go get some rest too.”

Once she’d taken the pills, she lay down beside Julian, exhausted. She hugged his arm, rested her head on his shoulder, and closed her eyes. “Get the light, would you?”

She felt awful, and she was so tired that she didn’t want to say another word. All she wanted was to sleep.

Bess glanced at her, switched off the light, and closed the door behind her as she left.

In the dark room, Nora wrapped her arms around Julian, tipped her head up, and kissed the corner of his mouth. “Good night, Julian. We’ll fall asleep together, and we’ll wake up together.”

Meanwhile, Olivia sat silently in the passenger seat on the drive home, going over everything that had happened that day. Gideon was driving. Every so often, he glanced over at her, but he didn’t say anything either.

Olivia remembered all those reporters and opened her phone. When she saw that the trending topics were still all about Nora, she let out a breath of relief.

But she frowned again almost right away.

The problem was, they’d all come from the interview she and Cordelia had given outside the hospital.

The first one read, “Miracle Healer Dr. Blithe Saves the City’s Richest Man.”

The second read, “Dr. Blithe, 80, Rushes from Eight-Hour Surgery to Save Weston Group CEO.”

The third read, “Mrs. Weston Claims She Saved Her Husband, Steals Credit from Dr. Blithe and Mr. Weston’s Childhood Sweetheart.”

Every one of them linked to clips from the reporters’ interviews, along with Phil’s answers and Cordelia’s.

Phil had insisted that Cordelia was the one who saved Julian, giving her the credit again and again.

Cordelia’s answers had been vague, but they’d left people believing she’d saved him.

There was also footage from outside the ICU, where Phil and Cordelia had both insisted that she’d sent the doctor who saved Julian, and accused Nora of doing nothing and stealing the credit.

Every post was flooded with all kinds of comments.

[Dr. Blithe is a role model for every woman out there. She’s brilliant, and she has the best ethics of doctor I’ve ever seen. She’s the reason I became a doctor. She’s been my idol since I was a kid.]

[She’s 80, she came out of retirement to keep working, and she can still get through an eight-hour heart surgery. And then she rushes straight off to save Mr. Weston? She’s incredible!]

[Exhausted like that, and she still brought Mr. Weston back. She’s not just a doctor. She’s the Grim Reaper’s worst nightmare. She decides who lives! Seriously amazing!].

[Olivia Blithe rushed back from the mountains too. I totally ship her and Julian. Childhood sweethearts are the best! Mrs. Weston has no shame. She stole Olivia’s man, and now she’s stealing the credit too.]

[She stole another woman’s man, and now she’s stealing the credit for saving him? Shameless! Bad enough that she took him, but she doesn’t even appreciate him. They’re married, and she still has to drug him to get him into bed. I bet that’s how she tricked him into marrying her in the first place.]

And the comments just kept coming.

Olivia read through the trending topics and felt a headache coming on. “How did this end up trending? Once the rest of it comes out, Grandma and I will be rumed.”

Gideon glanced over and saw how upset she was. “What’s wrong?”

Olivia gave him a quick rundown, then frowned. “We weren’t the ones who went around saying we saved Julian. And how could she possibly have saved him?

“Grandma sent for Dr. Corbett to save Julian. What gives Nora the right to pretend to be him and steal the medication Grandma requested? And now she’s gotten all of this trending.”

The more Olivia talked, the angrier she got, and the more convinced she was that there was some big conspiracy behind it all.

“Nora did this on purpose. She just wants to see Grandma and me humiliated. How could she do this? What did I ever do to her? I stopped fighting her for Julian. I even went off to run a free clinic in the mountains, and she still won’t leave me alone…”

Gideon frowned deeply as she complained. “Olivia, about all this…”

Olivia turned and glared at him. “Why are you taking Nora’s side too? Why did you say Julian’s test report was wrong?”
