Mia’s mother had even posted her daughter’s ID number and the hospital’s notice from back then saying Mia was in critical condition All of it could be checked.

She was the first to come forward, and soon, more and more people started speaking up.

[I’m one of their victims too. My youngest son was only five. He nearly drowned, and he was rushed to the Blithe Institute Annex. They told us we could donate his organs too. I wanted some part of him to live on, so I agreed. But to this day, I can’t find any record of the donation.]

More stories poured in.

More than a hundred people said they’d been told they had illnesses they didn’t have and been tricked into surgery.

And more than a dozen families said they’d been talked into donating their dying loved ones’ organs.

In this day and age, a whole hospital working together to sell organs shocked everyone.

[This is terrifying. Who’s ever going to set foot in a Blithe hospital again? The surgeons and the anesthesiologists were all in on it, selling people’s organs!]

[With this many people coming forward, I can’t help thinking it’s even worse. What if some of these patients could’ve been saved, but once the families agreed to donate, the doctors stalled or didn’t really try? Then the patient dies, the organs get donated, and it all looks perfectly legal.]

[It’s not impossible. Dr. Blithe faked how long her heart surgery took, didn’t she?]

[The Blithes basically run the medical world. They can get away with anything. I wouldn’t put it past them.]

[When Dr. Blithe lied about her surgery just to get revenge, I didn’t think that was enough to cancel her. Everybody’s got a temper. But tricking people into donating organs and telling women that something perfectly normal is “erosion”? That’s unforgivable. It’s disgusting.]

[Dr. Blithe needs to come out and explain herself. We want the whole truth.]

[@OliviaBlithe, you’re the Blithe heiress. Is this true? Come tell us what really happened. Did about it?]

you know

[@OliviaBlithe, did you have anything to do with stalling Mr. Weston’s treatment? Did you turn bitter because someone stole your childhood sweetheart?]

Olivia’s phone wouldn’t stop buzzing. People were tagging her directly and demanding answers.

At first, people were still discussing it calmly, but it quickly turned into a flood of abuse. Some even started digging up dirt from the Blithes’ past.

Olivia’s head was pounding, and all she could do was rush out a statement.

It read, “I’m sorry it’s taken me this long to make a statement. I’ve spent the past seven days running a free

linic in the mountains, and I only heard the news today. I hesitated, but out of respect for the friendship between our two families, I left the clinic and caught one flight after another to get back. I haven’t rested since, and I’m so exhausted I’m about to collapse. Still, I wanted to respond to everyone first so there’s no misunderstanding.

“First, my grandmother never meant to take anyone’s credit. Mrs. Weston was wearing a face mask and claimed to be from the Caduceus Order, so my grandmother mistakenly thought someone was trying to

steal credit.

“Second, I’m truly sorry that my grandmother made excuses not to treat Mr. Weston. She’s given so much. to medicine over the years, so selflessly. Maybe she’s getting older and wanted to put herself first, just this once, and that’s how she ended up making a mistake like this. I’m so sorry. I apologize on her behalf.

“Third, the Blithe Institute Annex does belong to the Blithe family, but my grandmother and I don’t run it. It’s run by my uncle, from another branch of the family. We only fust learned that families were being tricked into donating organs that were actually being sold. We’re just as shocked as everyone else. Even though we didn’t know, we failed to keep an eye on it, and that’s on us. Again, I apologize to everyone.

“Once the investigation is over, if this turns out to be true, we’ll make it right. If it isn’t, we’ll seek justice through the courts.”

Olivia’s statement was polite but firm. She’d faced the problem head-on and apologized sincerely, and it won a lot of people over.

[Exactly. That’s on the hospital’s management and the doctors involved. You can’t paint every Blithe with the same brush.]

[Dr. Blithe might’ve done something shady to Mr. Weston this time, but she’s never done the rest of us

wrong.

She developed a lot of medications, and she runs free clinics every year. She’s done way more good than harm.]

[Even if Dr. Blithe did something wrong, you can’t blame Olivia. She didn’t know anything about it.]

Reading those comments made Olivia feel a little better. Some people were still attacking her, but at least most of them believed her.

But before long, a new comment popped up.

TillysGrandma wrote: [Well, isn’t that a sweet little act! Nothing this old lady loves more than calling out a phony, so let me break it down for everyone,

[First, “I’m out in the mountains doing charity work for all mankind. I didn’t want to come back, but Mr. Weston’s illness forced me to. I’m SO selfless, and you’re still yelling at me and making me respond. Poor

me.”

[Second, “Old lady Blithe didn’t mean it. Mrs. Weston wore a face mask and tricked her into thinking someone was stealing credit.” Oh, so a mask means you can’t recognize anybody? And if you can’t recognize her, you can’t pick up the phone and check?
