Chapter 280 Harlan Makes His Move

Olivia was so furious that she hurled her phone at the floor. “Mind your own damn business! You’d better hope I never find out who you are.”
If she ever found out who TillysGrandma was, she’d make that old lady pay!
Gideon could see her temper getting worse and worse, so he tried to talk her down. “Forget about what’s online for now. Let’s figure out what to do. You need to look into the hospital yourself, call a family meeting, and do whatever you can to fix this.
“Actions speak louder than words. And Dr. Blithe isn’t young anymore. She can’t take much of this. We need to find a way to get her released.”
He didn’t believe Cordelia had anything to do with selling organs either. There was no reason for it. The Blithes didn’t need that kind of money.
Olivia glanced at her phone. Zane hadn’t texted or called. That wasn’t how she’d expected this to go at all.
She’d figured that after what she said, a man like Zane would come running to smooth things over and do anything she wanted, no questions asked.
She decided to leave Zane out of it for now. This was small stuff anyway, and she’d save the favor he owed her for something bigger.
Olivia quickly made a call. “Uncle, come to the estate right now. We’re having a family meeting. Get everyone there.”
That night, Olivia was swamped. She ran the family meeting, read through all the abuse being hurled at her online, and paid people to steer the comments and get the trending topics taken down. She was exhausted, but she still had to stay up all night hashing things out.
Meanwhile, Nora slept soundly in Julian’s arms all the way until morning.
She would’ve slept longer, but a commotion broke out in the hallway.
“Get out of my way! I want to get a look at this Mrs. Weston. She must be some kind of witch to have Mr. Weston so wrapped around her finger that he’d hurt the company for her!”
“We’re settling this today. Who’s covering the company’s losses? Is Mr. Weston stepping down, or is Mrs. Weston going to make it up to us?”
“If Mr. Weston and his wife don’t give us some answers today and pay us back for our losses, we’re not leaving.”
Nora opened her eyes. She was groggy for a moment, but then her expression turned sharp and cold. It softened again when she turned to look at Julian.
His eyes were still closed, and he showed no sign of waking up. She checked his pulse. It was much steadier than the day before. He’d just lost a lot of strength and needed sleep to get it back.
Only then did Nora relax enough to sit up. She was going to deal with whoever was making all that noise

“Nora, how’s Julian?” Constance asked anxiously. She’d spent the night on the cot, and now she was up too.
Nora checked the time on her phone. It was only 8:00. “He’s much better. He should wake up in an hour or two. Don’t worry, Grandma.”
Just then, someone started bellowing outside the door. “Get the fuck out of my way, you old hag, or I’ll knock you down and kick this door in!”
Nora hurried out of bed to help Constance up.
Constance told her, “Yesterday, Julian was in the middle of a meeting with his overseas partners when he heard the police had taken you in. He walked out halfway through, and the deal fell apart. Now, these old vultures are circling.”
Someone started kicking the door, and it thudded again and again.
Nora pulled Constance off to one side. “Grandma, stay back.”
Then, she stepped up and yanked the door open.
Whoever had been kicking it met nothing but air. He pitched forward into the room, stumbling and teetering, not quite falling.
Nora stomped on the back of his heel.
“Ahh!” He yelped as that foot buckled under him. He dropped to one knee, and his other leg shot straight out in front of him into a split. With a loud rip, the seat of his pants tore wide open.
The others behind him tried to push their way in, but Nora shot them a cold look and slammed the door. It smacked the first one in the nose or maybe caught somebody’s hand, and two more screams rang out.
Constance shook with rage as she glared down at him, still on one knee with his other leg stuck out in a split. “Harlan Weston, I’m not dead yet! Who do you think you are, acting like this in front of me?”
If she’d had her cane, she’d have been beating him with it right then.
Only then did Nora get a good look at him. It was Harlan, Julian’s uncle and Sienna’s father.
He picked himself up off the floor and pressed his knees together, but he could still feel a draft through the seat of his pants. All his swagger was gone in an instant. He looked ridiculous, like a clown.
“Mother, I only came because I’m worried about Julian. How was I supposed to know…”
He pointed at Bess by the door. “That old hag wouldn’t let us in. Julian’s at death’s door, and you’re getting on in years. What if she teams up with some outsider to swindle our family out of its money?”
The outsider was obviously Nora. She caught his meaning, but since he hadn’t named names, she wasn’t about to take the bait.
Constance had always known Harlan’s side of the family had their eye on the family fortune, but at least they’d kept up appearances. Now, Harlan was saying it right to her face, and she was shaking with fury.
