“Plus, the Pierce Group already gave you a rock-bottom price. That means more profit for your company.”
Adrian could sense the danger too. “Mr. Joss, business is built on trust. Besides, Mr. Weston’s future is very uncertain right now. That’s a big risk.”
Joss stopped and held up a hand to cut them off He looked at them, clearly annoyed. “I know. But the contract isn’t fully in effect yet. I signed it, but I still have to take it back to my company for final approval.
“And yes, I’m a man of my word. But Count Ansel’s friend deserves my full attention.
“So please stay here. Don’t interrupt my meeting with the count’s friend.”
Joss’s bodyguards immediately stepped in front of Adrian and Mandy and blocked their way. They were big, burly, and solid muscle, and just looking at them was intimidating.
Nora glanced back at Mandy. “Find me a waitress who knows how to follow orders.”
Mandy gritted her teeth in fury. Nora wasn’t asking for a waitress. She wanted Mandy to be the waitress! She was taking every chance she got to humiliate her.
Adrian looked down at Mandy in silence for a moment. Then, he stroked her hair and comforted her gently. “Don’t worry, and don’t be upset. You’ve already done great.
“If Nora really does steal the deal with Joss, I won’t blame you. You did your best.”
Mandy looked up at him. He’d seemed a little distant lately, but now, he was looking at her with nothing but tenderness and love.
In that moment, she could feel how much Adrian loved her, and it made her melt. He loved her, and he’d spoil her, just the way he’d loved and spoiled Nora in her previous life. That was enough.
Mandy gazed up at him. “I won’t let Nora steal the deal with Joss. Just watch.”
She let go of Adrian and hurried after Nora.
Adrian took a couple of quick steps, then stopped. He didn’t follow Mandy or call her back.
He knew exactly what she was going to do. She’d go in as a waitress and disrupt Nora’s talk with Joss so they wouldn’t lose the deal.
Whatever happened to her along the way, Adrian didn’t care one way or the other. He’d never been a good
man.
Nora and Joss went into a quiet private room.
Just as the door was closing, Mandy stuck her hand out to stop it. “Let me in.”
Nora raised an eyebrow. “Mr. Joss and I are having a private conversation. You’re not invited.”
Mandy knew Nora was doing this on purpose to humiliate her. All she could do was grit her teeth. “I’m the

“Oh, so you’re volunteering to be a waitress.” Nora smiled and nodded. “Sure. Did you get my slippers?”
“I’m getting them right now!” Mandy turned and, through clenched teeth, told someone to bring a pair of the hotel’s disposable slippers.
Joss watched them go at each other and turned to Nora, unable to believe it. “Are you two really sisters? I’ve never seen sisters act like this.”
Nora just gave a faint smile. “Let’s talk business. I’m sure you’re familiar with our company’s products, but you don’t have the full picture yet. Let me walk you through it…”
Joss didn’t have much time, so Nora had to make every minute count. She’d only need about 10 minutes.
Thanks to her memories from her previous life, Nora had already worked out how the partnership would grow and every problem the products would run into down the road. She handed Joss the polished proposal, then gave him a quick rundown of the key points.
At first, Joss had only given Nora a chance as a favor to Count Ansel. But as he listened, his eyes lit up more and more. He was clearly tempted.
Nora could see him softening, so she pressed her advantage. “Mr. Joss, partnering with the Weston Group will only bring you more profit, not less. Do you really want to pass up this opportunity, push us into working with some other company, and create a powerful rival for yourself?”
Joss really was tempted, but in the end, he just shook his head and gave Nora an apologetic look. “Your plan really is excellent. I’m very sorry, but I can’t work with the Weston Group.”
The answer didn’t surprise her. “Why not?” Nora asked
Joss hadn’t planned to tell her. But with Nora and her nearly perfect proposal right in front of him, he couldn’t help himself.
“The head of our company is doing a friend a favor,” he told her. “If Mr. Weston walked out of that meeting, we were to turn down the Weston Group on the grounds that he wasn’t trustworthy or committed enough, and that working with him was too risky.
“No matter who came to negotiate, even Constance Weston herself, we were supposed to say no. The Pierce Group was always the backup choice.”
Nora nodded. “I figured as much.”
“I’m very sorry,” Joss said. “It’s not my decision to make.”
Nora smiled. “That’s all right. I understand.”
