Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 295

Chapter 295 No Divorce

It seemed like there was one more person in the world who loved her.

“Grandma, cussing people out isn’t nice. Don’t wear yourself out like that anymore.”

Augusta stroked the kitten. “Killing people is illegal, and hitting people is too much work. Cussing them out is the easiest.” Back in her younger days, she’d have just mowed them all down.

Nora stared at her. Killing people? Hitting people? This sweet little old lady is even more violent than I am!

Nora took Augusta up to the apartment and got her settled in. She told her to listen to Wren, then put her own number in Augusta’s phone and added herself as a contact. Only then did she head back to the hospital.

The moment Nora was gone, Augusta grabbed her phone and shared Nora’s contact with Ethan Whitlock, Zane’s older brother.

She pecked out a message with one finger from each hand. “A bad woman, an old doctor, is picking on Tilly and ruining Tilly’s business. Help her.” Then, she sent the message to both of her grandsons.

When Ethan saw the message, he got a headache. He frowned. “I knew it. She’s after Grandma because of who Grandma is. She told her all that on purpose so Grandma would help her.”

In that instant, Ethan decided he didn’t like Nora one bit. In his mind, he labeled her a scheming con

artist.

But he wanted Augusta to be happy, and he didn’t want her sneaking off again where no one could find her. That was dangerous. Since Nora could at least keep her settled, he sent Nora a contact request.

Nora saw the request, along with a message. “This is Grandma’s third grandson.”

She raised an eyebrow. She’d only just gotten Augusta settled, and he was already reaching out. Can’t wait to start cashing in, huh?

She’d accept it and see what this no-good grandson was after. Without a second thought, Nora accepted Ethan’s request and saved him in her contacts as Ungrateful Grandson No. 3.

The moment she accepted, a message came in from Ungrateful Grandson No. 3. “Take good care of my grandmother. We’ll pay you for it. Don’t get any other ideas.”

Nora frowned at the screen. He wants my help, and he talks to me like that? He says he’ll pay me, then tells me not to get any ideas? Is this some kind of reverse psychology so he can reel in a bigger fish?

Nora texted back, “Since Grandma’s staying with me now, I’ll take good care of her. The rest of you can keep your distance.”

Ethan frowned as he read it. Now, he was sure Nora had an agenda. She wasn’t just trying to get in good with the family. She might actually be trying to pass herself off as the Whitlocks’ long-lost daughter.

Ungrateful Grandson No. 3 replied, “We only have one baby sister. I’ll never accept anyone else as her.”

Nora ignored him. She even thought about blocking hitn. That grandson really was ungrateful.

When Nora didn’t reply, Ethan didn’t send anything else either. He didn’t want to look too eager.

On her way to pick up Julian from the hospital, Nora passed a florist and bought a bouquet of garden roses. It was wrapped beautifully.

“Mrs. Weston.” Miles was standing by the door. When he saw Nora carrying that bright bouquet, he was a little taken aback.

Nora nodded and walked into the room. She handed the bouquet to Julian. “Sorry I kept you waiting.”

Julian looked at the flowers, then at Nora, just as surprised. “It wasn’t that long. You’re giving me flowers?”

Nora raised an eyebrow. “What? Is there some law against women giving flowers?”

“No.” Julian held the flowers and looked at her. “They’re from you. I’m flattered.”

Nora laughed. “A bunch of flowers has you flattered? What’ll you do if I give you my heart? Die of happiness?”

That not-quite confession made Julian’s heart race.

He glanced at the spot over her heart, then looked up at her seriously. “My heart’s fine. I don’t need a heart transplant, so I don’t need yours.”

That clueless answer killed most of Nora’s good mood. “You’re hopeless.” She’d practically just confessed to him!

Julian changed the subject. “Miles told me you didn’t close the deal. Do you need my help?”

“Joss hasn’t budged because it’s not his call,” Nora said. “BurI’m working on something else. I don’t need your help.” She looked at him. “If you help, it won’t count. Uncle Harlan won’t honor the deal.”

“I make the rules,” Julian said.

He said it lightly, but he sounded like a king, confident and commanding. It was as if the bet with Harlan were just a game he’d agreed to play because he was in a good mood, all to make Nora happy.

Nora checked his pulse, “That’s your business. Either way, I’m going to prove to them that I’m not dragging you down. I can stand by your side as your equal.”

Once again, her words made it clear how she felt about him.

Julian looked at her perfect profile. He swallowed hard and pressed his lips together. Then, he said in a low voice, “Don’t take it too seriously. We’re getting divorced next year anyway.”

Nora had been concentrating on his pulse, and the words threw her completely.

She looked up, her expression dark and angry. “Divorced?”
