Chapter 299 Sienna Switches Sides

Finished

Once breakfast was served, Nora sipped her milk. “Well, at least I’m not as shameless as you, Uncle Harlan. Time isn’t even up yet, and you’ve already got the nerve to come in here and boss everyone around like you own the place. Did you forget how Ever chased you out yesterday?”

The reminder of yesterday’s humiliation, when the dog had nearly bitten him, made Harlan so furious that he slammed the table and shot to his feet. “You…”

Julian, who’d been quiet the whole time, calmly looked up at him. “Not hungry anymore, Uncle Harlan?”

Harlan went cold all over at that quiet question. He was afraid of Julian, but he was still seething, and for a moment, he couldn’t find a way to back down without losing face.

Olivia gently broke the tense silence. “Julian, is Grandma Weston not up yet?”

“Probably not,” Julian said.

Harlan couldn’t help cutting in. “Mother’s usually up by 7:30 to do her Longevity Form. It’s already 8:00, and ‘she’s still in bed? She’s not hiding from me because she’s scared of getting kicked out, is she?”

Olivia turned to Harlan and spoke gently. “Uncle Harlan, Nora was only joking with you. You’re her elder. Be the bigger person and don’t take it so seriously.”

Nora raised an eyebrow at Olivia. Oh, so now she’s playing peacemaker?

Harlan’s expression darkened at once, and he got dead serious. “We signed a contract. How could it be a joke?” He looked up at Nora. “Was it a joke?”

“Was what?” Nora asked, playing dumb.

“Our bet! If you close the deal with Joss’s company, I move off the Weston estate and hand all my shares over to you. If you don’t, the heir position and the CEO seat go to my Theo, and the three of you move out of the main house.”

Harlan was worried Nora would play dumb and claim she’d never agreed to it, so he spelled out every term all over again.

Sienna’s eyes went wide. “Are you serious?” She turned to Julian. “Julian, you actually let Nora make a bet like that with my dad?”

Julian gave a careless nod. “Yep.”

For Sienna, hearing him admit it was the worst news imaginable. “Julian, you’ve completely lost your head over a pretty face! You’re like some king who’d give away his whole kingdom for a woman! This is insane!

She quickly turned to Olivia. “Olivia, hurry up and talk some sense into him. He’s so smitten he can’t think straight!”

“It’s fine. Julian knows Nora was joking, and Uncle Harlan won’t take it seriously either.” Olivia said it lightly, but she was gripping her fork so hard that it screeched against her plate.

“I sure as hell am taking it seriously!” Harlan was getting worked up again. He turned straight to Nora. “Don’t tell me you’re having second thoughts and playing dumb so you can go along with Olivia and call it a joke?”

Nora had nearly finished her breakfast. She set down her fork and looked up at Harlan. “I’ll give you one chance, Uncle Harlan. If you say the bet was a joke right now, then it’s a joke, and it doesn’t count. How about it?”

Nora was so confident that Harlan couldn’t help wondering if she’d closed the deal after all, and if he was the one who was bound to lose. For a second, he almost caved and called it a joke.

But then he remembered that Joss had already flown home, and the Pierce Group had already announced the deal. Nora hadn’t closed anything!

With that settled in his mind, Harlan relaxed at once and looked at Nora. “You’re a pretty good actress. You almost had me thinking you’d closed the deal.”

Nora just gave him a faint smile. “I really did close it. The contract just hasn’t arrived yet. Are you sure you don’t want to think it over, Uncle Harlan? Call it a joke, and it won’t count?”

Harlan checked the time. It was almost up, and he was sure he had this in the bag, so his patience ran out. He looked up at Nora. “That’s enough. You can drop the act. There’s no way you closed this deal.

“Time’s almost up. You’ve got an hour at most. Go pack your things so you can move out the second time’s up. Otherwise, I’ll just have you thrown out, and you won’t get to take a single thing of value with you.”

Nora shook her head slightly. “Looks like you’re not willing to call it a joke after all, Uncle Harlan. That’s a real shame.”

Sienna turned to Julian in a panic, practically shouting “Julian! Julian! I’ll call it a joke! I’m not on my dad’s side. I’m on your team, Julian!”

Harlan felt like his own daughter had just taken half the wind out of his sails.

He was so furious that he smacked Sienna on the arm. “Sienna Weston, don’t you dare take their side! I’m your father! Once your brother’s the heir, nobody’s freezing your allowance, and you’ll have all the money you want!”

Sienna rubbed her sore arm. “Dad, I’m not exactly a genius, and guess who I got that from? You do the math.”

Nora couldn’t help laughing, Well, at least she knows she’s not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Sienna hopped up and moved to sit right next to Nora, literally taking her side, and snuggled up against her arm. Then, she looked up at Julian to pledge her loyalty.

“Julian, Nora, I’m really on your team. You two are my real family!
