Chapter 309 Put It All Back

Harlan breathed a sigh of relief. He knew better than to push his luck, so he nodded right away. “Deal!”
Julian had already had the share transfer agreement drawn up. As soon as Harlan nodded, he had someone bring over the paperwork and a pen.
Harlan stared at the paperwork that would hand his 5% stake over to Nora, and he hated every second of it.
Just then, Olivia came downstairs with her suitcase.
At the same time, Nora turned on the local news, where a major story was breaking.
“In breaking news, the investigation into organ trafficking by doctors at the Blithe Institute Annex has concluded. Those implicated include the hospital’s director and Hugo Blithe…”
Olivia stood at the foot of the stairs with her suitcase, staring at the screen in shock.
“Dr. Cordelia Blithe, the renowned miracle healer, has had her medical license revoked for misconduct after keeping a patient in the operating room for an extended period. She has also been removed as president of the Medical Association and as deputy head of the Caduceus Order…”
The color drained from Olivia’s face, and her suitcase slipped out of her hand and tumbled to the floor.
Hugo Blithe was the uncle who’d been running the annex. The news showed footage of him being arrested along with the director and several other doctors, followed by a video of Cordelia being taken in for questioning.
Nora glanced over at Olivia with a faint smile. “Are you all right, Ms. Blithe?”
Olivia balled her hands into fists, using the sting of her nails to keep her hatred in check, and forced a stiff smile. “I’m fine. You don’t need to worry about me, Nora.”
She bent down, picked up her suitcase, and walked over to Nora. She looked her straight in the eye. “Nora,” she said in a low voice.
“Is there something else, Ms. Blithe?” Nora smiled faintly, watching Olivia’s face twist as she tried to hide her hatred behind a gentle mask.
Of course Olivia wasn’t all right.
The organ trafficking scandal hadn’t dragged Cordelia down with it, but she’d still lost her medical license. She’d been stripped of her position as president of the Medical Association, and the Caduceus Order, which always kept a low profile but held the highest standing in the medical world, had removed her as deputy head too.
Not only that, the reputation Cordelia had spent decades building as a principled miracle healer had crumbled overnight. In the age of the internet, the fallout was bound to hit Olivia and the entire Blithe family too.
Olivia took a deep breath and gave Nora a stiff smile. “I know you have a problem with me, Nora. That’s okay. You’ll see me differently someday, and then we’ll be real friends.”

She was smiling, but she couldn’t hide the hatred in her eyes. The words sounded friendly enough, but there was a hidden meaning behind them, and a challenge.
Nora just smiled back. “Then I’ll be watching, Ms. Blithe.”
The two of them locked eyes. The room went quiet, and the air grew heavy, as if they’d already fought a thousand silent battles. The tension was suffocating.
Olivia looked away first and turned to Constance and Julian. “Grandma Weston, Julian, I’m sorry for all the trouble lately. I should get going.”
She looked at Constance and said earnestly, “I know you don’t trust me anymore, Grandina Weston, but I haven’t changed. If Julian ever has another attack and you still trust me, come find me anytime. I’ll treat him, no matter what.”
Constance never burned bridges completely. She always liked to leave herself a way out.
She gave Olivia a warm smile. “Don’t say that. Your grandma just lost her head. That’s on her, not you, and I don’t blame you. Come by and visit whenever you’re free.
“We’ve got a lot going on today, so I won’t keep you. I’ll have Bess see you out.”
She called Bess over. “Please see Olivia out. And from now on, whenever she comes by, make sure she’s treated well.”
It all sounded nice, but Olivia knew she’d never be able to cozy up to Constance the way she used to, and Julian wouldn’t even spare her a glance. It was all Nora’s fault! She left the Weston estate with her suitcase in hand, bitter and seething.
No matter how bitter Harlan was, with Constance and Julian bearing down on him, he gritted his teeth and signed the share transfer agreement. Then, he turned on his heel to leave.
“Uncle Harlan,” Nora called lightly.
Harlan whirled around and glared at her. “What else do you want?” he snapped.
Julian looked at him, his tone icy. “Why are you yelling, Uncle Harlan? If you scare Nora, are you going to cover the damages?”
Harlan was so mad he nearly choked. Scared? Her? Is Julian blind?
He was seething, but he didn’t dare blow up. Instead, he lowered his voice and even forced a smile. “Is there anything else you need, Nora?”
