That made Mandy even angrier. She wanted to prove she was the one on top, so she lifted her chin and looked down at Nora even more haughtily. “We’ve never gotten along, hot since we were kids. And now Julian isn’t the CEO of the Weston Group anymore, or the richest man in the city either.

“After everything you’ve done to me, the fact that I even came to check on you and comfort you makes me a pretty great sister.”

Nora asked calmly, “So?”

Mandy grew cocky. “So now you’ve been kicked off the Weston estate, and Harlan’s going to make sure you’re finished. You won’t even be able to stay in the city.”

She looked at Nora as if she were doing her a huge favor. “If you beg me now, I could still help you out and make sure you can at least stay in the city.”

Nora scoffed at how full of herself Mandy was. “Did you rush right over the second you heard the news, just so you could laugh at me?”

Mandy didn’t deny it. “You could also look at it as me giving you a chance to beg.”

The moment she’d heard about the bet, she’d gotten up bright and early and come over to watch Nora’s downfall.

“You’re so stupid,” Nora said. “So stupid that I can’t even be bothered to deal with you. You’re not even worth having as a rival. What a waste of…”

What a waste of a second chance at life. Someone as/dumb as Mandy could be reborn a hundred times, and it wouldn’t do her a bit of good.

Mandy was furious at the contempt on Nora’s face. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

Nora pointed toward the living room wall. “Go inside and take a look at the pictures on the wall. Or you could call Adrian and ask him about the Joss deal. Or better yet…”

She smirked at Mandy. “Pull up the business news on your phone. Look for the story about the Weston Group’s deal with Jostar.”

Mandy practically shouted, “That’s impossible! There’s no way you’re partnering with Jostar! Joss flew home yesterday. You didn’t have time to sign a new contract with him.”

Then, something dawned on her, and she stared at Nora. “Did you fake the contract?” She sneered. “Nora, forging a contract is a crime. I’m reporting you!”

Mandy hurriedly pulled out her phone to make the call,

Nora rolled her eyes. “You might want to check the business news first.” She clicked her tongue, looking at Mandy with equal parts pity and contempt. “Looks like stealing that pocket watch didn’t do you much good. Adrian didn’t even tell you about this, so you came running over here just to make a fool of yourself.”

Mandy had been about to call the police, but after hearing that, she searched the business news anyway.

The top story was that the Weston Group had signed a deal with Jostar of Kestria a little before 9:00 that morning.

It was all over the business news, so there was no way it was fake. Mandy went over it again and again, looking for any sign that it might be a hoax, but she couldn’t find a thing.

She looked at Nora, even more confused. “That’s impossible. Joss never canceled the deal with the Pierce Group. You can’t sign the same contract with two companies. Did you pay off the business news?”

Nora looked at her calmly. “Anything can happen in business, What matters is the outcome. If you don’t get it, go ask that precious boyfriend of yours.”

Mandy was frustrated, but she called Adrian anyway.

When Adrian saw Mandy’s name on the screen, he got a headache. He really didn’t want to answer. But then he thought about how she’d helped him lately, and about that rainy night, and he softened.

“Mandy, I’m at work, and I’m pretty busy. Is there something you need?”

What he really meant was that she should get to the point and stop keeping him from his work.

Mandy obviously didn’t catch that. She asked anxiously, “Ace, is the Pierce Group still working with Jostar?”

“Yeah. Why?”

Mandy breathed a sigh of relief. “Didn’t Nora make a bet with Harlan Weston? If she didn’t land the Jostar deal, Julian would have to give up being heir and move out of the main house or something.

“But Nora’s telling me the Weston Group already closed a deal with Jostar, and it’s even on the business

news.”

As she talked, Mandy started playing the victim. “I came over here to help her, but she tricked me into moving furniture for ages. She’s been bullying me, and now she’s laughing at me…”

Adrian knew her too well. She hadn’t gone over there to help. She’d gone to gloat. For some reason, that put him in a sour mood, and he found himself annoyed with Mandy.

“Actually, no. The deal we signed with Jostar yesterday got canceled. They signed with another company instead.”

Mandy was crushed, then furious. “If the deal was canceled, why didn’t you tell me?”

If Adrian had told her sooner, she never would have come running over to laugh at Nora, only to end up the laughingstock herself.

Adrian frowned. “Mandy! This is Pierce Group business. I don’t have to run every little detail by you. I need to get back to work. Bye.” With that, he hung up.

Nora scoffed. “You’re Adrian’s girlfriend, and you even helped him land the deal. But you didn’t know it got canceled? I guess he doesn’t love you that much after all.”

That hit a nerve. Mandy flew into a rage and glared at Nora with pure hatred. “At least I’m doing better than you! This time around, Ace is mine! He’ll never love you!”

Nora raised an eyebrow, completely unbothered. “I’ve got Julian, and that’s all I need. If you want Adrian so badly, he’s all yours.”

Mandy felt like there was something behind Nora’s smile, something she couldn’t quite figure out.

That rattled her, and for a moment, she felt like a clown. But then she remembered that she’d been given a second chance at life, and she squared her shoulders. “It’s just one deal. So what?

“And don’t think Julian’s going to be around forever. The news is already out that he’s not well. Who knows when the Weston family will get a new head? Sooner or later, he’ll lose his spot as the richest man in the city.”

Nora could tell Mandy was picturing the way things had gone in their past life. Knowing that didn’t make her any less furious.
