Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 70

Chapter 70 Just Take It Off

Juan glanced at Nora, waited for her nod, and went to his own room.

“Make yourself comfortable, Nora,” Olivia said. “I need to set up.”

She turned away and got to work.

ད

Fit-hed

Nora looked the room over. The shelves held stacks of medical texts with a few novels wedged in among

them.

There were smaller things too, a snow globe and a little notebook, the kind of keepsakes a child hangs on to

Two or three framed photographs stood on the shelf, some of Olivia with Cordelia and one of her with the Westons.

In that one, Constance was still young and striking, and she had a three-year-old boy by the hand, a beautiful child who already had the beginnings of the face he would grow into.

His small face was set hard, cold for a boy that age, and he was pale enough to look unwell.

Nora leaned in for a closer look. That has to be Julian.

Olivia had finished setting up and came over. “That’s the two of us at four, when both families sat for a picture together.

“He never liked having his photo taken, so there aren’t many of him.”

Nora thought about the pictures he had sent her from work, and it put her in an unreasonably good mood. “He doesn’t seem to mind it that much.”

He had sent her shots from the office and one of himself in his pajamas, and he had clearly been happy to

do it.

Olivia thought about the post he had put up on Instagram and pressed her lips together.

“Where is he lying down for this?” Nora asked.

She had already checked. The only thing long enough in that room was Olivia’s bed, since the loveseat was barely three feet long.

Olivia glanced up. “My bed is the only option in here. I’m treating him, Nora. You don’t mind, do you?”

“I do.” Nora gave her a pleasant smile. “So I had a gurney brought up.”

Griff knocked at the door. “Mrs. Weston.”

“Bring it in,” Nora said. “Ask Miss Blithe where she wants it.”

Olivia’s expression collapsed at the sight of it, and the disposable sterile paper already laid across the top finished the job.

Her bedroom had stopped being a bedroom and turned into an exam room.

All she could do was point at the space beside the bed. “There. The light’s good.”

Nova looked over at her. “This treatment of yours is a daily thing, isn’t it, Miss Blithe?”

Olivia nodded, watching her warily, braced for another hole to open under her feet.

Fuushed

“Yes. Thirty days without a break. We should have started the day before yesterday, and waiting until tonight has already cut the clearance rate in half, so we can’t afford to miss a single session.”

Nora smiled. “Then the gurney stays in here. Wheeling it in and out every day would be a nuisance.

“And with his condition he could crash at any hour, so we’ll want it right here. You don’t mind it living in your room, do you, Miss Blithe?”

Olivia’s smile cracked again. “No. Not at all.”

There was no way for her to say otherwise.

Nora went on. “And to make an emergency easier to handle, I think your room needs a few more changes. You won’t mind those either, will you?”

Olivia was in that house as a hired doctor, and treating Julian was the only reason she had a room in it at all.

She wasn’t in any position to mind anything.

Her nails dug into her palm. “Of course not. His health comes before anything.”

Then she saw him in the doorway, and she smiled at Nora. “There’s physical contact during a session. I hope you won’t get jealous and interfere, because if a needle goes in wrong, the best case is paralysis and the worst case is death.”

Nora nodded, since there was nothing to mind about a doctor doing her job.

She also meant to watch exactly how Olivia worked, and to see what made the whole needle sequence special.

Olivia called herself the Snowbell Healer’s granddaughter, and Nora wanted to know whether the skill behind that claim was real.

She wanted to know whether this granddaughter could work the methods written in the Snowbell Journal.

She was honestly looking forward to the next hour.

She glanced at him, still standing in the doorway. “Come in. Don’t bother with the robe, just take it off and get on the table.”

She was actually hurrying him along, and his face went dark and cold. “You’re going to stand there and watch?”

Nora blinked, and without stopping to think it through she walked up, pulled the front of his robe open, and looked.

“You’re not going commando. Fine, off with it.”
