Chapter 79 I Trust My Wife
Ovia was a hired doctor and nothing more.
Nora’s brows went up. Was this Olivia?
It was possible. If it looked like something was going on between Nora and Trevor, and Julian divorced her over it, the person who gained the most was Olivia.
Olivia wanted Julian, after all.
Proving it was simple enough. She only had to find out who had put Trevor into that job.

Julian was working a banquet, letting people come to him and picking useful pieces out of what they said
The evening was winding down.
Julian texted her, “Home in half an hour. Anything you want? I’ll bring it.”
The message caught Nora off guard.
Going out to a dinner and still thinking about bringing food home for her was something only Rosalind had ever done.
This was what it felt like to be somebody’s first thought.
She wrote back.
Nora texted, “I had shrimp linguine when I got in. I’m not hungry.”
Julian texted, “Your dinner didn’t feed you?”
“Julian.”
He had barely sent it when someone said his name, and he looked up to find Damon. “You’re here too?”
“I’ve been here a while,” Damon said. “Fiona wasn’t feeling well, so I took her somewhere to lie down.”
Julian frowned. “Your wife isn’t named Fiona.”
Damon let that go past and took out his phone. “I heard you got married. Tell me whether this is your wife.”
He held the screen up where Julian could see it and pulled the photo out of a message thread.
The two people in it were Nora and Trevor.
In the frame she was sitting and he was leaning in to put his mouth on her cheek.
It looked exactly the way somebody had meant it to look.
Julian studied it and frowned. “Where did you get this?”

“A friend of mine happened to be eating at that restaurant,” Damon said. “He recognized her as Wren’s
sin and sent it to me.
“That is your wife, isn’t it?”
Damon hadn’t known who she was until the day she slapped him at the hospital.
After that he had learned that Julian had just married her.
The two of them had grown up together and were close, so the photo made him angry on Julian’s behalf.
She didn’t know the first thing about my marriage. She hit me and called me a cheat to back Wren up, and she’s been married three days and she’s already stepping out on him.
Two sisters, cut from exactly the same cloth.
Julian handed the phone back. “That’s my wife. I trust her. It’s the angle, and whatever happened at that table, it wasn’t this.”
Damon’s eyes went wide with disbelief. “He’s got his mouth on her cheek and you still think there’s nothing between them?
“Are you blind, Julian?”
Julian looked back at him without any heat. “I trust my wife. I know what kind of person she is better than anyone outside our house does.
“I’m not going to let one photograph make me question her character or her loyalty to me.”
Damon had no answer for a second. “Even if nothing has happened, doesn’t that kind of closeness make you angry?”
Julian looked at the photo again. “It doesn’t sit well. What I’m angry about is Trevor Lane getting that close to my wife.
“One picture proves nothing. Why didn’t your friend take a video? Why exactly one frame from exactly the right angle?”
That stopped Damon for a beat. “He caught it by chance. He wasn’t out to photograph her.”
“Then he got awfully lucky. It’s a restaurant, so my wife and Trevor weren’t eating alone, and a meal doesn’t last a second.
“Out of a whole dinner and everything he could have caught, he happened to catch that one moment?”
Something cold came into the way Julian looked at him. “A video clipped at both ends would be more convincing than a single angle.
“Damon, the problem isn’t the photo and it isn’t my wife. The problem is the friend who sent it to you.
“Who took it?”
Damon put the phone away. “Just someone I know. If you trust her, then there’s nothing else to discuss.”

He meant the next part kindly. “Pay attention anyway. Look into it. Better than being the last one to know,
make sure she isn’t after something else.”
Julian’s voice cooled. “My wife isn’t that kind of person. And you should look after your own house first, Damon.
