Chapter 87 Selling the Westons Out
thought wouldn’t let go of her. Or does he want her?
Fin
No. Absolutely not. Adrian was the richest man in the country, the single biggest asset her second life had handed her, the whole key to rewriting her fate!
She couldn’t let him fall for Nora!
Adrian pulled his expression back together. “We were walking out together and the wind blew her hair across me. I moved it out of the way. Whoever took that picture knew exactly what they were doing.”
He looked up at her. “Where did you get it?”
Mandy worked her lip for a moment before she answered. “Nora sent it to me.”
“Nora did?” Adrian couldn’t make that fit. “Why would she do that?”
The day before, Nora had been disgusted enough to cut the hair off and throw it away, and now she had supposedly turned around and sent the picture to Mandy.
Mandy shook her head. “I don’t know what she wanted either. I asked her about it this morning and she said she can’t stand you, that if somebody handed you to her she’d complain about the space you took up.”
She didn’t seem to notice his face darkening, and she kept going.
“She said the man I treat like something precious would come running the second she crooked her finger, wagging like a dog, and take whatever she felt like handing out.”
True and false ran together in everything Mandy said, and pulling them apart was next to impossible.
Knowing Nora, Adrian could hear her saying exactly that.
His jaw set. Like a dog?
There was no comparison in the world he hated more!
Adrian looked up. “She actually said that?”
Mandy nodded and turned her left cheek toward him. “I got angry and told her not to talk about you that way, and she slapped me for it.”
A faint red mark sat on her cheek, not deep, but clear enough to read as a handprint.

Adrian’s face turned cold enough to frost over.
Mandy still had his face in her hands. “Don’t be angry, Ace. Whatever she said, I’ll make her pay double for it!
“Nobody gets to treat you like that. Whoever they are, they get it back twice over!”
The fierce loyalty in her face got to him, and something in his chest gave. “All right.”

Mandy looked up at him, worried. “Do you think Nora is playing hard to get with you? Keeping you on the hook as a backup?”
“What?” Adrian didn’t follow.
Mandy leaned in on purpose, close to his ear, and dropped her voice. “I heard something. Julian/Weston has! some strange illness. If he isn’t treated within the month, he dies.”
She had worn a deep V neck that left most of her chest bare.
Leaning in like that put her chest against the side of his face.
She was trying to seduce him.
It turned his stomach, and he put a hand on her shoulder to push her back.
Then, the rest of the sentence registered, and the push turned into an arm around her.
His eyes lit up. “Is that true?”
Mandy nodded. “That’s what I heard. And there’s more…”
She held his eyes. “You’re bidding against the Weston Group for the Orion project, aren’t you?”
Mandy had heard about that project while she was living in the Weston house, and she knew things about it that nobody outside those walls did.
She could hand him that contract!
Adrian confirmed it, since the bid itself was no secret.
Mandy leaned closer to his ear and brought her voice down to almost nothing. “I know a few things…”
When she finished, Adrian pulled back and stared at her. “You’re certain about this?”
Mandy nodded. “I wouldn’t have told a soul if she hadn’t humiliated you like that. She came after you, so she pays for it!”
Adrian laughed and pulled her into his arms. “You’re the best thing that ever happened to me. I believe you.”
“And I believe in you. You’ll pass the Westons soon enough and be the richest man in the country.” Mandy settled into his chest, thoroughly pleased with herself.
Something had clicked into place for her. She had come back with a second life, and she knew far too much about what was coming.
There was no reason to sit around waiting for Julian to die before Adrian took the top spot.
She could feed him Weston secrets and put him there years ahead of schedule.
Julian alive and bankrupt might even be the sweeter version.
She wanted to watch the Westons go under. She wanted to watch Nora, who had bet everything on Julian, end up pouring drinks in some club for whoever paid, and posing for the kind of pictures that never came
