Chapter 89 Against the Wall
Ovia had pitched her voice loud enough that Nora frowned and turned around.

Julian had come out of the bathroom while they were talking and was standing a few feet behind them, and the look on his face was the one that comes right before a storm breaks.
The look sent a chill down Olivia’s spine. “I’ll go sterilize the gold needles. Come over when you’re ready. Jules.” She was gone before either of them answered.
Nora watched Julian come toward her one step at a time, and something in him felt dangerous in a way it never had before.
“I’m going to go check on Grandma.”
She turned to escape, and a second later his hand closed around her arm and pulled her straight into his chest.
Her back hit the wall, his chest filled her whole field of vision, and she stared up at him. “Julian, what are you…”
That was as far as she got before his mouth came down on hers.
Julian was kissing her!
Nora’s eyes went wide, and both hands came up to shove him off!
He caught her wrists, pinned them above her head with one hand, cupped the back of her head with the other, and pressed the whole length of himself against her.
He kissed like a man who hadn’t done much of it, all demand and no polish, and still he held himself in check and worked at being gentle.
The taste of him was clean and cold, and her head went light enough that she couldn’t hold on to a single thought.
Part of her wanted to fight it. The rest of her didn’t mind at all, went soft against him, and wanted to kiss him back.
She knew exactly what that was. Her body wanted him, and she had never disliked him to begin with.
Two lifetimes, and Nora had never kissed a man like this.
She wasn’t about to talk herself out of it either.
She liked the warm shapeless feeling of it, liked the dopamine flooding her system.
So she tested him, and touched her tongue to his.
That one small movement broke whatever Julian had been holding back, and everything came through at once, the way water comes through a broken dam.
The kiss went deeper and hotter, as though he meant to swallow her whole.

He had taken every bit of her air, and she sagged against him. “Any more of this and you’ll be… a widower.”
She got the words out with her bottom lip still caught between his teeth.
Julian let her go at last, reluctant about it, and looked at her mouth, red and swollen from him. He swallowed hard.
It’s never going to be enough.
The thought brought his head back down for one more bite at her lip, and then he pulled her in tight against him. “Who do you want?”
His voice came out low and rough with everything he was holding down, and it did things to her.
Heat crawled up the back of her neck, and every bone in her went soft.
She pushed at him without any real force. “You tell me.”
He had kissed her that long and she hadn’t fought him once, and he still had to ask.
Julian dropped his forehead against hers and looked straight into her eyes. “Trevor Lane? Somebody else?”
The question made Nora genuinely angry.
She hooked an arm around his neck, went up on her toes, and bit down hard on the side of his neck.
A low sound came out of him.
It had to hurt, and Julian only held her tighter and let her do it.
They stood locked together, thin fabric between them, the heat coming through it both ways.
She could feel exactly what the kiss had done to him, and her face went hot as she let go.
“I don’t want Trevor, and I don’t want anyone else…
She never finished, because Olivia’s voice came through the door of the next room.
“Jules, everything’s ready. You can come to my room now.”
It was a medical procedure. He was walking in there to have needles put in him.
Coming from Olivia, though, with everything sitting underneath it, the sentence landed wrong and set Nora’s teeth on edge.
Nora went up on her toes again and bit down on his lower lip, hard enough to leave it swollen without breaking skin.
“Jules, are you coming?” Olivia called again, louder. “You need to hurry, or there won’t be enough time left tonight.”
Nora made a face, then took his hand. “Come on. Let’s go get you fixed up.”

Chapter 89 Against the Wall
The two of them walked into the next room together.
via-glanced up with the stern professional expression she always put on for the needles.
Then, she saw their mouths, both red, both swollen, and there was only one thing that did that.
Her professional face cracked straight down the middle.
