Chapter 91 She Hung Up First
is isn’t my heme anymore,” Wren said. “Why would I bother keeping their floors clean? I’m not trying to stay friends with anybody here, so manners don’t come into it.”
Nora nodded, impressed. “Exactly right. That’s the attitude.
“You’re getting divorced. Nobody needs to coddle him now.”
Wren decided Nora had a point. They weren’t even divorced yet and Fiona was already installed in the house and pregnant, so what was she protecting?
She could stand to take a page out of Nora’s book.
Wren went upstairs to the master bedroom. She had braced herself for it, and she still couldn’t keep her face steady at the sight of the new bedding and the strange skincare lined up on her vanity.
Nora frowned at it. “That’s not your taste.”
Wren tried for a smile and couldn’t manage one. Her chest hurt so much she could hardly breathe around it.
“Did you print the divorce agreement for me?”
Nora took it out of her bag and handed it over. “Right here. You’re sure you don’t want to fight for anything? I can help you.”
“I’m sure.”
Wren crossed to the vanity, took a pen out of the drawer, signed her name, and set the papers on the nightstand.
Then, she picked up her ID, thought about it, and took her marriage certificate as well.
“Let’s go,” she said.
Nora looked at her empty hands, not one dress or one bag with her. “That’s everything?”
Wren nodded and worked hard at looking light about it. “I’m walking out with nothing. Thank God there aren’t any children, or this would be a real mess.”
The $200,000 she had handed Nora had been the only savings she ever managed to put aside.
There was nothing else, so she wasn’t taking one thing that belonged to the Winters.
Nora was pleased for her. “Come on. I’m taking you shopping.”
Wren nodded. “Let me call Damon and set a time to file the papers.”
A signed agreement wasn’t a divorce until a judge signed off on it.
She didn’t bother stepping away from Nora, and dialed him where she stood.

The first two calls went unanswered, and he picked up on the third.
What is it?” Damon sounded put out before she said a word.
“I’m at the house right now. Do you have time this evening? I…”
“No. I’m working late.” He gave her nothing else.

Wren didn’t want to keep Nora waiting, so she skipped the rest. “Then pick a time and we’ll file the papers. The sooner the better. Nine tomorrow morning.
“The agreement is signed. It’s on the nightstand.”
“Wren, look at you.” Damon laughed at her. “Big talk. You think you can walk in and hand me a divorce…
The line went dead. Wren had hung up on him.
Five years, and it was the first time she hadn’t waited for him to end the call. Something that had been sitting on her chest lifted.
Damon stared at his phone, then let out a cold laugh. “She’d really give up the Winter money?”
He didn’t believe it for a second!
Wren felt lighter, and she took Nora’s arm. “Come on. Dinner is on me.”
“You just got out of the hospital and you’re buying? I’m not that cheap.” Nora gave her a look.
Wren laughed. “We’re celebrating my divorce! Of course I’m buying!”
“Divorcing a man like that is absolutely worth celebrating,” Nora said.
Nora was honestly glad to see her take that step. The first time around, that marriage had worn Wren down until it killed her, and this one step meant that ending was already off the table.
In a good mood, she took Wren to the mall, bought her several outfits, moved her out of the cheap things she ordered online, and steered her toward the handbags.
Wren kept refusing. “A $100 bag does the job. I don’t need anything designer. It would look like a knockoff on me anyway.”
Nora pulled her into the boutique. “Consider it a divorce present. You’ll need one for work.”
“Fine. On the record, I’m borrowing the money, and later on I’ll…”
Nora glared at her. “Wren, are we family or not? Since when do you talk to me like a stranger? Why don’t you just cut me off completely while you’re at it?”
The anger got through, and Wren dropped it. “All right. Buy whatever you want to buy. You’re the one with money.”
“It isn’t your money, Nora, so of course spending it doesn’t sting. And now you’re spending it on strangers?”
The voice belonged to Sienna.

Three friends trailed after her.
“Who is that?” one of them asked.
Sienna’s lip curled. “Who do you think? That’s the Nora I told you about. The one who latched on to my brother and won’t stop going after Olivia.”
