Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 92

Chapter 92 Answer Honestly

Wen had thought the same thing herself, and hearing it out loud embarrassed her.

“Besides,” Nora went on, “it’s one handbag. You think I can’t buy you a handbag with my own money? Sienna is here to start something with me.

“Stand there and watch how I handle her. Take notes, because the next time somebody comes at you, you hand it right back!”

Nora peeled Wren’s hand off her arm and walked toward Sienna, smiling. “You remember what I told you yesterday, don’t you?”

Sienna watched her come one step at a time, smiling the whole way, and the smile made it worse rather than better. Her cheek began to ache again at the memory.

She wasn’t about to back down, though. Gideon had turned down dinner and a movie with her, and then he had shown up to bring Nora lunch and wash her car.

“You talk so much. How am I supposed to remember all of it? Besides, I was in this store first. You can go find somewhere else to shop.”

Nora stopped in front of her, smiled, and raised her hand.

Sienna jumped back and raised her voice. “If you hit me again, I’m calling the police! Assault!”

Olivia had coached her on that line earlier in the day.

“Who said anything about hitting you?” Nora tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, taking her time about it.

Sienna froze.

All three of her friends turned to stare at her, because a flinch like that only came from real fear.

The humiliation burned, and all Sienna could do was glare. “Whatever. You are not spending my brother’s money today!”

“You have your friends with you, so I’ll let you keep some dignity today,” Nora said. “Actually…”

She raised her hand again, and Sienna assumed she was going for her hair and didn’t move.

Instead, Nora put her hand on top of Sienna’s head and patted it. “Good girl. Admit I’m family and it my mood holds I’ll buy you a bag too.”

The pat, the tone, all of it was how a person talked to a dog they owned.

Sienna knocked her hand away. “You’re not my family and I’m never admitting you are!”

Nora looked at her. “Accept it or don’t, it’s a fact either way, and you’d better make that clear to your friends.

“You can go on refusing to admit it. What you can’t do is tell people I broke up somebody’s relationship.

“Otherwise I’ll throw a party and let your brother set everyone straight in front of the whole room.”

smile on her face made Sienna’s skin crawl, and she turned to her friends. “Nora is with my brother. She didn’t break anybody up. Don’t go repeating that.”

“But Miss Blithe…”

Olivia was well liked in those circles, and treated with a good deal of deference.

Seeing Nora on Julian’s arm struck all of them as unfair to her.

Nora raised her brows. “Julian and Olivia did grow up together. Who decided that growing up together makes two people childhood sweethearts who have to get married? Why not old friends? Why not the girl next door?”

Sienna and her friends had nothing to say to that. Nobody in their circle had ever heard the point put quite so bluntly.

“Sienna, I’m going to ask you a few questions,” Nora said. “Answer honestly. Get every one of them right and I’ll do whatever you tell me for a full day. Deal?”

Sienna eyed her, on guard. “Nothing difficult?”

She was watching for a trap.

Nora smiled. “Relax, nothing technical. A few small questions, and you’ll know the answer to all of them.”

Sienna hated the whole idea. Then, she pictured getting every answer right and having Nora wait on her for a full day, and she decided she would work her into the ground.

“Fine. Ask,” Sienna said, certain that anything Nora could come up with would be easy.

Amusement sat in Nora’s eyes. “Have Julian and Olivia ever dated?”

Sienna’s eyes went wide. “You…”

“Dated or not?” Nora kept smiling at her. “Answer honestly, or we go back to what I promised you yesterday.”

One question in and Sienna already knew she had walked into it!

She was furious, and more than that she was afraid of getting hit, because Nora absolutely would.

“They never dated!” Sienna bit out.

“Have Julian and Olivia ever been engaged?” Nora asked.

“No!”

“Their families talked about marrying them off one day. Did Julian ever agree to it?”

“No, no, no!” Sienna was almost out of her mind, and all three came out in one breath.

Watching her lose it made Nora smile. “No dating. No engagement. No promise from Julian to marry her. So which part of that makes me the other woman?”
