Nara looked back at her, unbothered. “An apology from me is worth something, and it doesn’t come cheap. Go on and pay. All that talk and I still don’t see a receipt.”

Sienna sniffed at her. “I can afford it. I’m not the one living off my brother.”

She handed the sales associate her card. “Run it. I’m taking all of it.”

Then, she looked at Nora. “I’ll buy every one of these and throw them in a dumpster before I let you have one. I want you to feel it!”

Nora smiled at her, perfectly calm. “All right. I’ll be waiting.”

And then the whole thing went sideways.

The associate hurried back over. “Miss Weston, the card was declined.”

Sienna’s eyes went wide with disbelief. “Declined? That’s impossible! That card has a $5,000,000 limit!”

“It was, I promise you,” the associate said. “You’re welcome to come and see for yourself.”

Sienna bit her lip and looked at Nora, who was still standing there smiling, waiting for the show. “Try a different card,” she said.

She dug a second card out of her purse and handed it over.

The associate ran it and came back. “Miss Weston, that one was declined as well.”

Sienna pulled the last card she had out of her purse.

The associate ran it, then delivered the news with a polite, mortified smile. “Miss Weston, this one was declined too.”

She had three cards on her with three different limits, and together they came to $10,000,000.

Not one of them would go through!

Paige was the one who pointed it out. “Sienna, could your cards be frozen?

“They worked half an hour ago. You bought three bags with them. Whatever happened, it happened just

now.”

‘Sienna’s head snapped around to Nora, who was still smiling. “Did you get my brother to freeze my cards?”

Nora raised her brows, smiling. “No.”

“You did! You had him freeze them and now you’re denying it! You wanted to watch me humiliate myself!” Sienna’s voice shook with it.

“Oh, I absolutely wanted to watch. But I didn’t have Julian freeze anything, because…” Nora stepped in closer and took her time with it. “I froze them myself.”

Sienna refused to hear it. “That’s not possible…”

or cut her off, laughing. “Did you forget the night your grandmother put me in charge of this house? Anone living on a family allowance, and that includes you, can have their cards frozen by me.”

She tipped her head toward the mound of shopping bags on the floor. “This family has money. It didn’t blow in off the street, and nobody’s letting you throw it away. Run to your grandmother if you like. It won’t change anything.”

Sienna was close to crying with rage, and she glared at Nora, cornered and humiliated.

“So are you still buying all this?” Nora asked.

Sienna said nothing. “Huh,” Nora said, letting it drag. “Without Julian earning it, you can’t afford one of these on your own. That has to sting. That has to really sting.”

Sienna’s face hurt, as though the words had actually landed on it.

Minutes ago, she had promised to make Nora feel it, and now her own cards were dead and it had all come back on her.

No. Not happening.

She set her teeth and turned to her three friends. “Give me your cards. Cover the bags for now. I’m borrowing, and I’ll pay all of you back.”

Nora clicked her tongue. “You bought each of them a bag, and the second you can’t pay you’re asking to borrow from them. Fair-weather friends all around.”

She smiled at Sienna. “If the friendship is that thin, don’t bother borrowing. You’re Olivia’s errand girl. Go collect a paycheck from her and pay for it yourself.”

The three of them had taken her gifts, so refusing was awkward, and they all spoke at once. “Sienna, you bought us bags. We’ll cover you. Use my card.”

“Don’t worry, we’re friends. I’m not letting Nora make a fool of you. Take mine too.”

“Run it. We’re not being shown up by her. We’re friends, so forget borrowing. Whatever it comes to, it’s a gift!”

All three assumed the bags couldn’t add up to much, roughly what Sienna had spent on one bag for each of them.

They had checked prices earlier. Everything ran under $100,000, nothing outrageous, and the priciest one was only a little over $100,000.

The three of them each handed over a card, and the sale went through without any trouble.

The associate came back beaming, with the receipt and a pen. “Here you are. If everything looks right, could I have your signatures?”

Sienna turned to Nora, gloating. “We are not fair-weather friends. We’re close, closer than sisters, which is more than anyone can say for you and that broke friend of yours.”
