Reborn to Get the Alpha She Rejected novel Chapter 6

Chapter 6 Dinner And Daggers

Over the next few days, I shadowed Leander at the administrative headquarters. I picked up more than I ever had before, and my understanding of how the pack actually ran grew by the

day.

One evening after work, Leander surprised me by suggesting we go out to a high-end restaurant for dinner.

I didn’t expect to run into Vivian and Thomas there.

Vivian had been cutting his steak for him. The moment she saw me and Leander, she dropped the knife and fork, staring at me in shock.

“Mia, you’re here too.”

She caught herself immediately and corrected. “Alpha, Luna. You two are having dinner here as well?”

A beat later, her thoughts flooded in.

Fuck. Of all the times to run into her. I cannot look bad right now.

“Yep, Leander and I are out for dinner.”

I linked my arm through Leander’s. He didn’t pull away.

Thomas hurried over to greet us.

“Alpha, Luna.”

Leander didn’t even acknowledge them. He just led me to our table and sat down.

I caught a glimpse of Vivian behind us, practically grinding her teeth to dust.

She had to be confused. Why wasn’t Leander beating me? Why was he taking me out to dinner?

When I went to the restroom, she was waiting outside the door.

The look on her face said she wanted to tear me apart. That look. The exact same one she’d had the night she drove that silver dagger into my chest.

“I bet Leander beats the crap out of you behind closed doors! Drop the act. You make me sick,”

she scoffed.

I smiled and let my gaze drift to her arm, pretending to notice the cluster of needle marks dotting her skin. They hadn’t healed, not even with her natural regeneration.

“Oh, Vivian. What happened? Why are there so many needle marks on your arm?”

Panic flashed in her eyes. She clamped a hand over her arm and glared at me. “Mind your own business. That’s just how Thomas and I play.

“Not that you’d know anything about that. Leander hasn’t even marked you yet, has he? Thomas keeps me up all night. I can barely keep my eyes open.”

Right. Her life was clearly miserable, but she’d rather die than admit it.

I wondered how long she could keep up the act.

“Good for you two. I hope it only gets better from here.”

I turned to leave.

She grabbed a fistful of my hair. “You bitch! Are you mocking me?”

I winced. She was still the same unhinged lunatic, same as last time. I struggled to break free of her grip.

Then Leander appeared out of nowhere. One swift kick sent her stumbling backward.

“Disrespecting my mate. Do you know what the punishment for that is in Bluemoon Pack?” Leander pulled me behind him and stared down at her.

I remembered the rule. In Bluemoon Pack, anyone who laid a hand on the future alpha’s mate faced 50 lashes at minimum. At worst, they’d be thrown into the water dungeon for three months of solitary confinement.

Vivian had gotten me thrown in there once in our past life. The place was crawling with rats, roaches, and water snakes. So she knew exactly what was coming.

Her face drained of colour. “Please, Leander. I didn’t mean it. Don’t do this to me.”

But Leander wasn’t the type to show mercy. Once he made a decision, nothing and no one could change his mind.
