Chapter 7 The Door He Slammed
I realized instantly how that must have sounded and waved my hands. “No, no, no. That’s not what I meant. I was just telling you why we got into it.”
“Mia, have you ever thought about actually becoming my mate? Letting me mark you?” Leander’s gaze bored into me.
“Of course not.” The answer came out without hesitation. “I told you from the start. I just want to use your position to live a quiet, comfortable life in Bluemoon Pack. That’s all I’ve ever asked for. Nothing more.”
“That’s really all?”
I nodded firmly. He didn’t say another word. He just turned and slammed the door behind him.
I had no idea which part of that set him off.
But then I reminded myself it didn’t matter. We were mates in name only. He hadn’t even marked me. His moods were not my problem.
All I had to do was learn the business, build my skills, and earn enough crystal stones.
That was enough.
The next morning, Leander didn’t ask me to come with him to headquarters like he usually did. He just sent someone to tell me I was on my own at the branch office.
So I threw myself into running the branch.
My goal was simple-ten million crystal stones, then walk away.
Armed with memories from my past life, I knew exactly what the neighboring packs needed. I spent every day bouncing between territories, locking down deals, launching joint projects, refining elixir formulas, and streamlining the production of beast-crafted goods. Within days, the branch was pulling in serious profit.
When the old Luna heard the results, she was thrilled. She personally authorized me to draw. compensation directly from the branch’s profits, bypassing the usual pack regulations.
Just as I was buried in work and raking in money, Vivian was released from the water dungeon.
That day, I’d just finished up at the branch office and headed home. She was standing at my

front door.
A few days in that dungeon had taken their toll. She looked noticeably thinner, her complexion sickly pale. But she’d still taken the time to doll herself up in an elegant beast- print dress with a light touch of makeup, fighting to keep up appearances.
She clung to Thomas’s arm and walked toward me, step by careful step.
“Mia, I’ve already gotten Mom’s approval to work under you. Learn the pack’s operations, help take some weight off your shoulders.”
Thomas’s thoughts poured in. Just wait. It won’t be long before I put you and Leander both in the ground. Everything in the Bluemoon Pack will be mine.
A memory from my past life hit me like lightning. Leander’s sudden, unexplained death.
So it was Thomas. He killed him.
And in this life, he wasn’t just planning to take out Leander. He wanted me dead too.
I fought to keep my expression steady as I looked at Vivian. “Sure. Start tomorrow.”
I said it on purpose. I wanted to see what she was really up to.
A beat later, her thoughts confirmed it.
What a fool. She bought it, just like that. Enjoy it while it lasts, Mia. I’m going to put all of you in the ground. Leander, Thomas, and you. Every last one. When the dust settles, Bluemoon Pack will be mine and mine alone.
So those days in the dungeon had actually sharpened her. She’d come out with a bigger, crazier plan than before.
Too bad she had no idea I could hear every word rattling around in her head.
How exactly did she plan to kill someone who could read minds?
In my previous life, Leander had died from a rare poison, something that suppressed the body’s ability to heal and slowly ate away at the internal organs.
The hidden basement in Thomas’s room crossed my mind. I’d seen shelves lined with strange, colorful vials.
He used to inject those things into me, testing them like I was some kind of lab animal.

Some knocked me out cold. Others sent my body into overdrive, shaking and wired for hours.
Looking back, those were the components. He’d been building that poison all along.
The next morning, I brought Vivian to the administrative headquarters and started her on the most basic tasks.
She was a different person now. Controlled and measured.
Whatever I said, whatever I asked her to do, she agreed without a word of protest.
I knew why she was playing nice. She was plotting a murder.
Thomas, meanwhile, wanted me and Leander dead so he could swallow Bluemoon Pack whole.
