Reborn to Get the Alpha She Rejected novel Chapter 8

Chapter 8 Playing With Snakes

Thomas believed every word.

Because no one knew about his abuse except him and Vivian. The fact that I had details was all the proof he needed.

“I’m gonna beat the shit out of that woman.” He ground his teeth. “Sit tight, babe. Once I take care of Leander and her, I’ll be the alpha of Bluemoon Pack. And you’ll be the happiest luna this pack has ever seen.”

Then he was gone.

As if I’d actually fall for that. I wasn’t going anywhere near him.

I went straight to Leander.

Strictly speaking, his life wasn’t really my concern. But in this life, he’d done right by me. He helped me find my footing in Bluemoon Pack, taught me how to run the operations, and gave me the chance to earn my own money. That wasn’t nothing. I owed him one.

Besides, if anything happened to him and Thomas took power, I’d be the first one on the chopping block.

In his office, Leander listened to what I had to say. Surprise flickered across his face.

“What proof do you have that Thomas wants me dead?”

I pulled a small recording stone from inside my coat, a voice-capturing device carved from beast bone. It was a Bluemoon Pack specialty. I’d activated it the moment I walked into Thomas’s room.

I played back the entire conversation.

The first part was me flirting with Thomas to gain his trust. Listening to it now made my own skin crawl.

“That part was an act,” I said quickly. “I was just trying to get him to talk.”

Leander didn’t respond. His expression darkened.

I wisely shut my mouth.

Then, without warning, he pulled me into his arms.

The scent of pine washed over me. I could feel his heartbeat against my chest, hard and fast.

I froze. I had no idea what to do.

His locked onto mine. “Mia. Don’t ever think about betraying me. As long as you’re my mate, I expect your loyalty.”

The most powerful alpha in the region, and that was what he focused on?

“Can we put that aside for a second? Your brother is literally trying to kill you. What are you going to do about it?”

“Let him try. I’m the rightful alpha heir of Bluemoon Pack. Why would I be afraid of a bastard son? If he can’t finish the job, he’s the one who dies.”

Leander didn’t seem bothered at all. That evening, he even took me to a diplomatic banquet hosted by a neighboring pack.

He said the event would bring together alphas and betas from all the major packs in the region. Good networking, good exposure. He wanted me to see how things worked at this level.

The moment we stepped into the banquet tent, I felt every pair of eyes in the room land on me. Some curious, some sizing me up, and more than a few dripping with ill intent.

They probably couldn’t wrap their heads around it. A regular wolf with a basic soul rank, mated to Bluemoon Pack’s future alpha.

Men are all the same. Trash. Should’ve never brought her here.

That was Leander’s thought, out of nowhere.

I stared at his profile in shock. His face was completely blank, and yet that was what was going through his head.

What did that even mean?

He caught me staring and looked down at me. “What?”

Then, in his head, he said, Such a little dummy.

I was floored.

This was the cold, ruthless, untouchable alpha heir. And that was what was running through his mind?

I forced my face to stay neutral and shook my head. “Nothing.”

After the banquet, Leander took me home.

Thomas and Vivian were waiting in the living room. And Vivian actually invited us to stay for dinner.
