Chapter 5 Five Million Stones
Right as Leander was about to agree, I pushed the door open and walked in.
tongue.
I gave the Blackrock alpha a polite nod and greeted him in the common wolf
Then I picked up the bottle of bone-marrow elixir he’d brought and examined it.
“I may be a regular wolf, but I’ve studied elixirs for years. I know more about what this stuff actually does than you’d think.”
I looked him dead in the eye. My tone was even, but every word landed where it hurt. “This elixir looks like it boosts strength, but all it really does is give you a mild energy kick. It can’t even enhance basic stamina for a low-rank wolf. The so-called power boost? Pure marketing. So tell me, what makes a formula this weak worth five million crystal stones?”
The Blackrock alpha’s jaw went slack.
Leander watched me with open interest. He didn’t interrupt.
That was all the permission I needed.
So I pressed on, bolder this time.
“That said, the formula isn’t completely worthless. Blackrock Pack has always been good at marketing their elixirs. This one’s mediocre at best, but you’ve managed to hype it up. Plenty of low-rank wolves have heard of it, so there’s some brand recognition there.
“So here’s what I’m willing to offer.”
I held up one finger.
“One million crystal stones?” The Blackrock alpha blurted out in disbelief.
“Jack, one million is a fair deal. Think it over.” Leander fixed him with a steady gaze.
“No,” I cut in. “Ten thousand crystal stones.”
The raw ingredients for this formula were worth a few cheap herbs at most, not even eight hundred stones. Ten thousand was already generous.
Jack shot to his feet, face flushed with anger. “Who the hell are you? You think you can lowball me like this? This isn’t a negotiation, it’s an insult!

“Fine! I don’t need to sell to Bluemoon Pack. It’s not like you’re my only option!”
He turned on his heel and headed for the door.
“Jack. One million crystal stones. We sign right now. But first, you owe my mate an apology.”
Jack spun around, his eyes lighting up.
I didn’t understand what Leander was doing. I tried to stop him.
But he shook his head, signaling me to stay quiet, so I bit my tongue.
“Leander, now that’s how you do business.” Jack laughed and turned to me with a quick apology. “Sorry about that. Didn’t realize you were his mate.”
Then Leander took him to sign the contract.
Afterward, I couldn’t help asking. “That stuff is worth a few hundred stones at best. Why would you pay a million?”
Leander poured himself a cup of coffee, completely unhurried. “You’ve got the eye for spotting fakes and the guts to call them out. But you don’t understand how packs play the long
game yet.
“The formula itself is worthless. I knew that before he walked in. What I’m buying is the marketing network and reputation Blackrock Pack already built around it. The elixir’s mediocre, sure, but it’s a household name in every neighboring pack. A few tweaks to the formula, a push through their existing channels, and we’ll make that million back in three months. Maybe even crack open new markets for Bluemoon elixirs across the region.”
It clicked. All at once, I understood.
So that was why Jack had walked in so confidently.
Coming here was the right call. There was so much to learn.
“One thing, though. How did you know it was only worth a few hundred stones?” Leander’s. gaze locked onto me.
I let out an awkward laugh. “Lucky guess.”
He didn’t press the issue. I took the opening and asked if he’d let me manage the pack’s branch operations.
In my previous life, I’d been stuck with Thomas, who held zero real power in Bluemoon Pack.
