Linda nodded and slid a freshly printed document across the desk to Annie.
"The senior management is taking this very seriously. They had the public relations team and legal department working through the night, coordinating with the police and running a full investigation.
"The moment the incident happened, the company pulled some strings and tried to keep the news down.
"But something still managed to leak online last night, which was why the backlash erupted so quickly."
Her tone was calm and methodical.
EVL hadn't dominated the industry solely because of its designs. Its real strength had always been its crisis management—and the way it protected its designers.
This time, though, the culprit was clearly prepared.
"Our team traced the IP address of that first post and learned that it came from Jynston General Hospital.
"The police also tracked down the janitor who was on duty that day. She has confessed to everything.
"She said that Maeve suddenly collapsed. The scene was chaotic, and she was panicked. Then, she remembered that message and thought it must've been you. So, she just followed everyone else and pointed at you."
Linda paused for a moment before adding, "As for who actually sent that message, she doesn't know. They only ever contacted her by text."
Annie quietly listened to all this. Her hand at her side tightened into a fist before she even realized it.
For days, it had felt like she was fighting alone. Only now did she realize that the company had already done so much for her behind the scenes.
Then, her heart sank when she heard the name of the hospital. Jynston General Hospital was like a nightmare she couldn't shake.
In her past life, that was where they had drained her bone marrow, taken her child, and left her to die with hatred in her chest.
In this life, anything tied to that hospital led back to only two people—Cecilia and Sean.
Sean showing up at the OBGYN department yesterday had already been strange enough. A cardiac surgeon didn't just wander into another department for no reason.
He wouldn't have gone there for Annie. He was probably sniffing around for information for his precious first love, Cecilia.
"Linda, thank you. And thank the company for me," Annie said softly.
Annie stared at the screen. Almost immediately, a new message popped up. The reply was so fast that it almost felt like an illusion.
"No need. Just focus on doing your job well."
As always, her reply was brief and to the point.
Annie stared at the message for a long time.
Even though she had turned her down, she didn't feel particularly disappointed. If anything, it made her even more certain that the executive didn't care about attention and preferred to just get things done quietly.
Annie quietly tucked that kindness away in her heart.
If the executive didn't want to be disturbed, the only way for Annie to repay her was through her work, proving that her kindness hadn't been wasted.
Annie put her phone away.
The storm outside still hadn't passed. There were more important battles waiting ahead.
