Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 143

It had only been a kiss on the cheek, yet Annie still remembered how soft it felt, along with his clean, fresh scent.

Annie dropped back onto the bed, hugged the comforter to her chest, and buried her face in the pillow.

She felt too mortified to face Christian.

After washing up, she caught her reflection in the mirror. Her cheeks were flushed, and her eyes darted nervously, making her look as if she had done something wrong.

She didn't know what Christian would think of her. Was he going to think she was shallow and easy, or that she had gotten drunk and lost control?

Either way, it was more than enough to make her want to die of embarrassment.

She pulled herself together, got dressed, and decided that the only way out was to act like she didn't remember anything at all.

Moving as quietly as possible, she opened the bedroom door and peeked into the living room.

It was silent and empty.

Christian had probably already gone to work.

She let out a quiet breath and stepped out, her steps noticeably lighter.

She had just reached the middle of the living room when the aroma of food drifted in from the kitchen, and she stopped short.

A second later, Christian walked out carrying a plate.

He was in simple beige loungewear. When he saw her, a faint smile touched his dark eyes. "You're awake?"

Heat surged back into Annie's face.

Christian looked so calm, as if nothing had happened at all. It only made Annie feel more awkward.

Her gaze unconsciously flicked toward his mouth, then snapped away like she had been burned.

It wasn't his lips she had kissed last night. It was his cheek.

The memory made her thoughts spiral all over again.

Christian set fried eggs and a glass of milk on the table and pulled out a chair. "Ann, come eat breakfast."

Annie tightened her grip on her bag strap, avoiding his gaze and staring everywhere else. "I... I'm not eating. There's a really important meeting this morning. I need to get going."

She spun around and rushed for the door, as if she could run away from her embarrassment.
