Annie completely froze.
Had she shown up at the worst possible moment, or had she walked into the wrong apartment?
She didn't know what the hell William was doing there in Suzanna's apartment.
William saw Annie too, and his eyes went wide like he'd seen a ghost.
A second later, he let out a sharp yelp and clapped both hands over his chest, resembling some innocent woman who had just been caught half-naked by a creep.
He thought that the situation was bad. Why was Annie here?
If Annie told Christian that William had walked out of Suzanna's bedroom half-naked, William might as well have been watching his own funeral.
He was sure that Christian would kill him.
Annie noticed his panicked reaction, and her curiosity was instantly piqued. She felt like she'd just uncovered a huge scandal.
William and Suzanna? Did they...
Her gaze slid between William and the closed bedroom door, and the curiosity in her eyes was impossible to miss.
William's scalp prickled, and his survival instincts kicked in hard.
"It's not what you think!" he blurted, so frantic that he looked like he might start jumping in place. "I brought Suzanna home last night, and she threw up all over me! Really! I just took a shower and changed clothes! My clothes are still in the dryer! I swear!"
Annie narrowed her eyes, the corner of her lips lifting into an amused, knowing smile. She clearly didn't believe a single word.
William looked like he was about to cry. "Come on!"
When he caught that knowing look on her face, he knew that there was no explaining his way out of this.
If he stayed any longer and Suzanna woke up, he would be even more screwed. He needed to leave immediately.
William let out a miserable groan and bolted barefoot into the other room, one hand clamped over his bare chest.
He grabbed the clothes he had been drying, threw them on in a rush, and ran out as if his life depended on it.
Annie couldn't help but smile wider. She walked over to the couch, took a seat, and waited patiently for Suzanna to wake up.
About ten minutes later, the bedroom door finally clicked open.
Suzanna shuffled out with her hair a mess and sleep still in her eyes. "Ann? What are you doing here?"
She couldn't remember what had happened, but one thing was absolutely clear—she wasn't letting William off the hook.
Annie laughed, unable to hold it in anymore. She stood, went into the closet, and pulled out the expensive gown.
"Alright. I'll stop teasing you. I have to get to the office," Annie said as she carried the garment bag to the door.
Before she left, she turned back and winked. "No matter what, I'm on your side."
Suzanna caught the teasing in Annie's tone and grew even more flustered. "Ann! It's not what you think!"
She stomped her foot and tried to explain, but she didn't even know where to start.
Annie just smiled, waved goodbye, and closed the door behind her.
"Ah!" Suzanna screamed, bouncing in place as she grabbed a throw pillow and started beating the couch.
A second later, she charged back into her room, snatched her phone off the bedside table, and found William's number. Then, she prepared to blow his phone up.
That bastard! Did he really think he could cop a feel while she was drunk? She was going to end him!
