Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 173

Annie couldn't figure it out at all.

It took a long time for her to finally snap out of her daze. She looked at the table full of food that she and Christian had barely touched, and a bitter taste rose in her mouth.

She asked the waiter to pack up the leftovers. "Check, please."

The waiter smiled and handed the bill folder back. "Miss, your husband settled the bill before he left."

Annie paused, and the knot in her chest tightened. She took out her phone and opened her chat with Christian. Her finger hovered over the screen.

They had agreed that she would be the one treating him, so she wondered how she could let him pay.

But the moment she recalled Christian's icy glance as he left—and that inexplicable question—her fingers froze mid-type.

She didn't know what to say to him right now. She figured that he probably didn't want to read any of her messages anyway.

Annie eventually turned off her phone screen.

She took the takeout bags, walked out of the restaurant alone, and caught a cab back to the apartment.

The living room was pitch black, cold, and devoid of any human warmth.

It seemed that Christian hadn't returned.

Time ticked by, and the hour hand on the wall clock crept past midnight.

Christian still hadn't come back. Annie put the leftovers in the refrigerator and sat alone on the couch.

She hugged her knees and let her gaze lose focus on a random spot in the room.
