Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 174

After settling Suzanna onto the couch, Annie hesitated for a moment before recounting everything that had happened at the restaurant earlier that evening, leaving nothing out.

"He said that he feels like he doesn't matter to me," she said.

Suzanna couldn't hold back her laughter.

Annie looked at her best friend, who was cracking up and rocking back and forth, with a blank expression.

Suzanna asked, "You really can't see it? He's obviously jealous. He's jealous of Sean Frost!"

Annie was completely stunned. She didn't understand why Christian was jealous.

Suzanna continued, "Think about it. After you woke up, other than caring about Irene, who was the other person you asked about? It was that bastard Sean!

"How could Uncle Chris not feel bad about that? He busted his hump watching over you all night, not sleeping a wink, yet your mind was focused on the enemy who almost killed you.

"He definitely thinks that, in your heart, he is less important than an ex who hurt you.

"He has done a lot for you. He settled the score for you, he nursed you around the clock, and he doesn't even have a label to show for it. Instead, you treat him like he doesn't matter. Who wouldn't feel hurt in his shoes?"

Suzanna's words were like a bucket of cold water, instantly waking Annie up. She finally understood the reason.

She had focused only on the kind of punishment Sean had received, but she had never considered how Christian had felt when she asked the questions.

Christian had done so much for her, yet she hadn't given him a single word of affirmation. It was no wonder he had been so silent these past few days and had asked such a question.

Christian wasn't angry that the wedding had been ruined, nor did he care about the money. What mattered to him was her—and who he was in her eyes.

A sharp sting of regret gripped Annie's heart as if a hand were squeezing it tight. She looked at Suzanna and asked with some uncertainty, "So... what are you saying?"

"I'm saying that he likes you! Anyone can see that!" Suzanna poked Annie in the forehead, frustrated that the latter was being so dense.

She continued to ask, "What about you? Ann, tell me. What exactly do you feel for Uncle Chris?"

Annie's heart skipped a beat. She gave it some thought.

"I..."

She didn't know.

Suzanna sighed when she saw Annie's conflicted expression. She said, "Ann, I know your last relationship hurt you deeply, but you can't write off all men just because of one jerk.

Suzanna lay back on the couch leisurely in a great mood. She considered this her act of redemption.

She had Irene eating out of the palm of her hand, and Irene couldn't stop singing her praises. On top of that, she had just been the perfect wingman for Christian.

She figured that she wouldn't have to go back to that terrifying women's finishing school now.

She was ready to embrace her freedom.

In the CEO's office on the top floor of Parker Group, Christian stood before the window, one hand tucked in his trouser pocket.

He wondered whether he'd spoken too harshly. He couldn't help but think of how helpless Annie must have felt when he walked out, leaving her alone in the restaurant.

She had just been discharged from the hospital, and she was still recovering.

This realization made his heart seize with pain.

Christian took out his phone. The screen lit up, then went dark again.

His notification bar was empty—no new messages. It seemed Annie truly didn't care about him at all.
