Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 198

William came out of Easton's ward and headed straight toward the respiratory unit.

He moved like he'd been there a hundred times. He found Christian's room and pushed the door open without knocking.

"Christian, you really know how to dump problems on me," William said as he dropped onto the couch.

He grabbed an apple, wiped it on his shirt like that was good enough, and took a bite. The careless attitude was nothing like the sharp, professional doctor he'd been in the ward a moment ago.

Christian didn't even look up at William. His eyes stayed on the page.

William clicked his tongue and chewed. He thought that Christian and Suzanna were both good at bossing people around.

Suzanna, that feisty troublemaker, had dragged him out of a warm bed with one phone call. But she had no idea that Christian had already told William to come.

William felt like a glorified errand boy with a medical degree.

"By the way, I ran into your wife just now," William added around the bite, clearly enjoying himself. "From the look on her face, she still doesn't know who you really are. You've hidden your identity so well."

The moment the words left his mouth, a cold gaze landed on him.

Christian slowly closed his book and looked up.

A chill ran down William's spine. The apple suddenly tasted like cardboard. He immediately lifted both hands in surrender. "Alright. I'm done. I'm shutting up."

He cleared his throat, and his entire posture shifted as he flipped back into doctor mode. "I checked on Easton. It's worse than I expected. He has comminuted fractures in both legs, and there's nerve damage, too.

"If he wants to walk again, he's looking at at least three major surgeries. Even then, the success rate is only 50%."

The room fell quiet.

Christian's expression didn't change, as if he'd just heard something unrelated to him.

Whether Easton would ever stand again was his own concern. Christian only needed an ally who could bite Sean hard enough. As long as Easton was alive and could get back on his feet, he was qualified.

"Got it," Christian said at last.

William watched him for a second, unimpressed. "Can you at least act like you have a little faith in me?"
