This wasn't the Christian that Easton knew.
It seemed that love really did make people foolish.
Michael's expression didn't change, as if he hadn't noticed the sarcasm in Easton's voice. He only looked at him calmly.
"Mr. Parker made it very clear. If you go near Mrs. Parker again, it won't just be a broken leg next time."
The smile in Easton's eyes cracked and fell apart.
Michael stepped closer. He lowered his voice until only the two of them could hear. He growled, "Mr. Parker will reconsider our cooperation."
Easton's face went completely blank.
He might brush off a personal threat, but he couldn't afford to risk his cooperation with Parker Group.
So, this was what it looked like when a man lost his head for a woman.
Seeing Easton's expression darken, Michael knew he'd made his point.
He stepped back and slipped into his usual polite, deferential posture. Then, he gave the two bodyguards a slight nod. "Keep an eye on Mr. Frost."
With that, Michael turned and left the ward without looking back.
The door closed softly behind him, sealing everything off.
Out in the hallway, Michael pulled out his phone as he walked. He typed quickly and sent a message. "Mr. Parker, everything's taken care of."

Back in the car, Annie fastened her seat belt without uttering a single word and turned her face toward the window.
Christian started the car and merged smoothly into traffic.
He didn't speak right away. He only watched her quietly through the rearview mirror.
She was clearly weighed down by something. He figured that it was because of Easton.
The explanation made sense. The flicker of doubt in Annie's chest slowly eased at his words.
She had forgotten he worked at Parker Group.
Parker Group and Frost Group were both major players in Jynston. Business overlap was normal.
The Frost family had left her on edge and overly sensitive.
Annie's shoulders eased. She reached over and rested her hand on the back of his hand on the steering wheel, giving it a light pat.
"I know. Don't worry. I'm not stupid. I won't give them another chance to use me."
The soft warmth of her hand settled Christian's nerves in a way nothing else could.
The car rolled to a stop at the next red light.
Christian unfastened his seat belt, turned toward her, and pulled her into his arms.
