Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 208

How could Sean be at the Steward residence? What did he want with Irene?

Sean never did anything without a payoff. There was no way he'd shown up out of kindness. If he was there, it was a sign of trouble.

Irene was growing older, and her health had become fragile. She couldn't handle any shock.

Annie didn't even want to imagine what Sean might say to Irene.

"You wouldn't dare!" Annie snapped.

A low chuckle came through the line. "Why wouldn't I? I just want to catch up with her. Why are you so nervous?"

"Sean, what do you want?"

"If you don't want me going inside, that's fine," Sean said, his voice edged with a quiet threat. "Come over here. Let's talk face to face."

He hung up before she could respond.

Annie stared at her phone, shaking with rage. Her fingertips had gone cold.

She didn't have time to think. She grabbed her bag and rushed out of her office.

Nothing else mattered.

All Annie could think about was that she couldn't let Sean see Irene—under any circumstances. She sprinted out of the office building and tried to flag down a cab, but it was rush hour.

The traffic was a mess, and her heart was just as tangled.

Finally, a cab pulled over.

"138 Oakridge Road!" she blurted as she climbed into the cab. "Please, drive as fast as you can!"

The cab merged into the sea of cars and crawled forward.

In the back seat, Annie gripped the strap of her bag. Her palms were slick with cold sweat.

Neon lights slid past the window, but in her eyes, they blurred into nothing but smeared color.

What was Sean planning?

After a long, grinding stretch, the cab finally stopped at the familiar alley by the Steward residence.

The moment Annie stepped out of the cab, she spotted the familiar black sedan. Sean was leaning against the driver's side door, talking on the phone.

He hadn't gone in yet.

Still, there was no sign of the person she was waiting for.

She checked her phone again, but Annie still hadn't replied to the message she'd sent half an hour earlier.

What was going on?

Annie was supposed to come straight over after work, but it was already late.

Had something come up at the last minute?

It didn't feel right. Annie would have told her if she had to work late.

Suzanna pursed her lips as realization dawned on her. She figured that her overly possessive uncle had probably grabbed Annie on the way.

That had to be it.

They were probably off somewhere together, and Suzanna had been completely forgotten.

Suzanna huffed, unsure whether to feel annoyed or entertained.

With that, she made up her mind to storm over to Parker Group and catch them red-handed.
