At the top floor of Parker Group, Christian finished reviewing the last document on his desk and loosened his tie.
He glanced at his watch, and the corner of his mouth lifted without him realizing it.
Annie should've already met up with Suzanna for dinner by now.
He wondered if she'd had a long day, and whether she'd want a late-night snack when she got home.
Just then, the office door slammed open.
Suzanna stormed in, hands on her hips, a smug, triumphant look on her face as if she'd finally caught him in the act.
"Where is she?" Suzanna scanned the empty office, then fixed her gaze on Christian. "Uncle Chris, where'd you hide Annie?"
Christian arched a brow, genuinely confused. "What are you talking about?"
"Don't play dumb!" She marched up to his desk, her cheeks puffed with frustration. "I had dinner plans with Annie, but she didn't show up. And I can't reach her. If it wasn't you, who else could it be?"
The smile on Christian's face slowly faded, and his brows drew tightly together.
Annie was always punctual. She wouldn't stand Suzanna up for no reason.
He grabbed his phone and called the number he knew by heart.
A cold, automated voice answered. "Hello. The number you have dialed is not available."
Christian's frown deepened. He called again, but still no one answered.
That faint sense of unease suddenly turned into real fear.
Christian shot to his feet and grabbed the suit jacket draped over the armrest. He said, "Let's go."
The shift in his tone caught Suzanna off guard. Her playful smile disappeared, giving way to panic.
"Where... Where are we going?"
"Home."
The two of them quickly left the office.
