Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 225

"I missed you," Annie said to Irene.

She walked over, gently wrapped her arms around Irene's shoulders from behind, and rested her head in the crook of Irene's neck. This was the only place she could lower her guard and be herself.

Irene set down the shears, turned around, and patted Annie's hand. Her cloudy yet sharp eyes swept across Annie's face, and that fleeting trace of fatigue did not escape her gaze. Something was clearly bothering Annie.

"What's the matter?" Irene asked in a kind yet probing tone. "Did you fight with Christian?"

Annie's heart tightened. She straightened up at once and shook her head with a smile.

"No, Grandma. What makes you say that? We're fine, it's just that I've been a little exhausted lately. So, I wanted to come back and stay with you for a few days."

Annie didn't want Irene to worry. The latter's health wasn't good, and that meant she couldn't take any shocking news. The kidnapping, the lies, and the schemes were absolutely off limits.

Irene watched as Annie pretended to be at ease, seeing through the latter effortlessly. Annie had never been good at lying. The moment something weighed on her mind, it showed in her eyes.

But since she didn't want to talk, pressing her would only make her feel worse.

In any case, Annie was a grown-up, and she had her own life. As long as she still knew to come back, this would always be her home.

"Alright, then," Irene said, nodding with a chuckle. "You're a married woman now, but you're still clinging to me like a child."

Annie leaned into it and slipped into a playful tone. "Doesn't matter. I still feel safe and loved around you, Grandma."

"There you go again with the sweet talk," Irene said, the smile on her face deepening.

She took Annie's hand and led the latter inside, giving instructions to Gary, who followed behind. "Gary, tidy up Annie's room. Change all the bedding to new ones and clean them. Tell her she can stay as long as she wants. This will always be her home."

Gary answered with a smile, "Understood. I'll see to it right away."
