Linda inadvertently glanced at Annie, who was next to her, and an idea popped into her mind.
Annie always handled things calmly. Thus, Linda thought that she could perhaps handle that annoying woman, Amelia. She figured that it could also be her first test.
Linda leaned back into her chair. Putting her hands together, she looked at Annie.
"I'm supposed to oversee this project personally, but the client's agent is extremely difficult to deal with. Will you be willing to take over the project, Annie?"
It was a risky project that could fail at the slightest mishap. Annie knew that well, but it was also a chance for her to prove herself.
Talent alone wouldn't be enough for her to stay in a company like EVL. She also needed to be both skilful and competent.
She met Linda's gaze and said without hesitation, "No problem, Ms. Lopez. Leave it to me."
Seeing the confidence in Annie's eyes, Linda nodded, feeling pleased. "Alright."
She jutted her chin at Taylor and said, "Lead Ms. Brown to the reception room."
Taylor immediately turned and left, as if she had been pardoned. Annie followed her out of the office.
The door to the reception room was left ajar, and a shrill, female voice carried through the door crack.
"Is this how EVL treats its guests? This subpar coffee is undrinkable!"
Annie's hand paused at the door. When she walked into the room, she immediately saw a woman wearing a Chanel suit. Her makeup was detailed and intricate.
The woman was looking at the cup of coffee in her hand with disgust. The staff member tasked with serving her stood at her side, at a loss. She looked like she was about to cry.
Annie stepped forward and patted her shoulder. She said gently, "Go to the director's office and tell Ms. Lopez that I would like to borrow her premium coffee blend."
The staff member shot Annie a grateful look and scurried out of the reception room. Annie turned to face Amelia and extended her hand for a handshake.
"Nice to meet you, Ms. Brown. I'm Annie Steward, the designer in charge of Maeve's gown for the red carpet event."
"We give everyone who comes to liaise with us the same respect and courtesy. Ms. Lopez only put me in charge of Maeve's project because she was confident in my capabilities. I won't let you, Maeve, and her down."
Her reply was flawless. Not only did she make herself look better, but she also flattered both EVL and Linda. Amelia had nothing to counter it with.
Amelia simply harrumphed and decided to move on. "Fine. Then, let's discuss the design.
"I'm sure you know how important the red carpet event next month is. Every media outlet in the world will be there.
"We aim for Maeve to be the most stunning celebrity at the event. We want her look to go viral across all social platforms and be celebrated as a classic for all red carpet events."
Amelia leaned back into the couch and started listing her demands arrogantly. "We want the gown to look ethereal but commanding.
"The gown needs to make Maeve look seductive but also modest. The design needs to accentuate her curves without being too obvious. We want it to look natural.
It seemed that all of her demands contradicted each other.
