Maeve felt her heart pounding as she pressed her lips together. When she glanced toward Amelia, she saw the same shock and disbelief in her eyes.
It was a massive gamble, but also an unprecedented opportunity to resolve a crisis and elevate her career.
After staying silent for a while, Maeve slowly raised her head and met Christian's inscrutable gaze. With careful deliberation, she nodded. "Okay."
When the door to the meeting room closed behind them, Amelia could no longer hold back her excitement.
She escorted Christian to the parking lot, maintaining a humble and thankful demeanor. "Mr. Parker, thank you so much. Don't worry. We'll fully cooperate on Maeve's end, I promise!"
Christian merely hummed faintly and kept walking.
When they exited the elevator and reached the spacious yet dim underground parking, Amelia noticed Michael waiting beside the car.
Next to him, a woman was bound to a pillar with her mouth gagged and eyes wide with terror.
Wasn't this Roxanne? Amelia froze, her smile faltering. She wondered what was going on.
Amelia had been in the industry long enough to know where her boundaries lay. She knew better than to meddle in Christian's personal affairs.
She quickly averted her gaze and pretended as though she hadn't noticed a thing. She maintained her smile and said, "Mr. Parker, I'll leave you here. Have a safe journey."
With that, she turned and walked away briskly, as though fleeing from some unseen threat lurking behind her.
When Christian walked toward his car, Michael immediately approached him. "Mr. Parker."
He handed over a phone to Christian. As the latter looked at the screen, a social media backend came into view.
"I found the source of the post claiming that Ms. Monroe is pregnant. She's the one who sent it." Michael pointed toward Roxanne, who was still bound.
"This was all Cecilia's idea! She made me post it and frame Annie using her IP address! I'm begging you! Please spare me this once!"
Just then, an indifferent female voice rang out across the parking lot, interrupting her pleas. "Sir, do you happen to know if a woman named Roxanne Hudson was here?"
It was Annie. Christian immediately shot a warning glance at Roxanne, who was slumped onto the floor.
He then shot Michael a look. The latter immediately understood and stepped forward to untie Roxanne.
A moment later, Christian and Michael retreated a few steps, disappearing into the shadows behind a massive concrete pillar.
As sharp footsteps echoed through the garage, Annie appeared under the harsh overhead lights. Her eyes immediately landed on Roxanne on the floor, and a chill settled over her expression.
Annie stepped closer, stopping in front of Roxanne. Her tone was laced with indifference as she said, "I had a private investigator investigate the post online. You're the one behind it, aren't you?"
