Reborn To Stay Away From Him novel Chapter 16

The moment Edmund stepped through the door, he slipped on a banana peel by the entrance.

His gaze swept inch by inch over the home he had lived in for decades, and for a moment he barely recognized it.

The windows were no longer as bright as they used to be, the sofa was stained with some unknown grime, and even the television he usually watched had a crack running across its screen.

Stephen was sitting on the floor, wailing loudly.

He turned his head toward Edmund and crawled over to him, using both hands and feet.

“I’m so hungry. I haven’t eaten anything for days.”

How was that possible?

Hadn’t Diana been taking care of Stephen all this time?

Edmund searched all around but couldn’t find Diana anywhere, so he could only head into the kitchen and dig up some food Josephine had left behind earlier.

After finally soothing Stephen and mixing some formula for him, Edmund saw Diana come through the door carrying several large shopping bags.

She immediately started complaining to Edmund.

“You’re finally back! I don’t know if Steve was spoiled rotten by Josie or what, but he refuses to eat this or that, and he even smashed the TV.”

She showed the red mark on her wrist. “Look, I even burned myself

while cooking!”

Edmund did not comfort her gently as he usually did.

He simply stared at Diana coldly.

Diana laughed awkwardly and shook the bags in her hands. “I went out to buy Steve something to eat, but then I saw that dress I like on sale at the department store and lingered a bit. Don’t be mad at me, okay, Eddy?”

Edmund took a deep breath and handed the note straight to her.

“Those two subordinates did get very close to you before, and the handwriting on this note is yours too, Diana. Haven’t I treated you well? Why would you do something like this?”

The bags slipped from Diana’s hands and fell to the floor as she stared

Stephen, who had just come out of the bedroom after drinking his milk, still had tears clinging to his face.

He angrily pointed at Diana. “It’s all you! You said Mom was just a nanny and that only you were good to me. That’s why I said that Mom hit you that day! If it hadn’t been that day, Mom wouldn’t have stopped coming back to cook for me!”

Stephen’s young, childish voice rang out sharply through the room.

Diana froze instantly, her face turning deathly pale.

Edmund suddenly turned his head to look at Stephen. “Steve, did you actually see what happened that day?”

“Steve must be starving and confused. He’s just angry at me, so he’s saying this, right?”

Diana’s throat was dry, and cold sweat streamed down her face along her hair.

Stephen raised his small hand once more and pointed at Diana.

“I saw it. She used a fork to stab into Mom’s shoulder wound and even said that Dad had stopped loving Mom a long time ago, so what if she took him away!”
