After the meeting was adjourned, Amelia received a call from her mother.

She wanted Amelia to make an appointment with Christopher to discuss the proposal for the investment project.

Since their investor invested in their project, they were obligated to submit a clear proposal to the investor.

After hanging up, Amelia pulled Christopher’s contact out of the blacklist and gave him a call.

He finally answered the call after a long while.

“What’s up?” His voice was cold and distant as usual.

Amelia had long gotten used to it and cut to the chase, “Do you have time tomorrow? My mom wants to meet you to discuss the investment.”

Christopher said, “I don’t have time. We’ll talk about it next time.”

Amelia furrowed her brows; she was about to ask him when he would be free to nail down a specific date and time when she heard Nicole’s voice on the phone.

“Chris, your bath is ready. Are you not going for it?”

Christopher hummed in agreement. “Okay.”

Amelia then heard a beeping over the phone. Christopher had hung up on her.

Amelia stared at her phone as she tightened her grip on it.

Were they going to take a bath together?

She chuckled out loud. No wonder he was so cold and dismissive toward her. She had interrupted their time together.

They were in their honeymoon stage right now, after all.

She sent Christopher’s number to her mother and told her to call him tomorrow to decide on a date and time for the discussion.

The next day, Amelia brought Evelyn to the company’s team bonding event.

She had been so busy with work recently, she had been neglecting Evelyn and not spending enough time with her.

Sometimes, she even had to work overtime during the weekends.

She didn’t even have time to bring Evelyn out to play. She decided she would seize this opportunity to bring Evelyn out for some fun.

Amelia was beginning to realize that if she didn’t want to miss out on her daughter’s growing years, she couldn’t keep being on the front line at her work. At the very least, she had to be present in her daughter’s daily life before she could go all out with her work.

The company’s team bonding event was held in a holiday resort, which came equipped with a host of entertainment facilities such as horse riding, rock climbing and hot springs. There was even an indoor ice- skating rink.

The sunshine was warm and bright, the field lush and green-a perfect environment for children to fly kites.

Evelyn was sweet and adorable, and looked just like a doll. All of Amelia’s colleagues adored her and wanted to play with her. Her exquisite features shone under the sun, especially her eyes, which gleamed and sparkled in the sunlight.

Amelia was stunned when she saw her daughter’s eyes. She never realized how Evelyn’s eyes resembled Christopher’s.

The difference was, Evelyn’s eyes were pure and innocent.

Some of her colleagues went to the other part of the resort for rock climbing, which was too dangerous for Evelyn. Amelia brought Evelyn to the field where they tried to fly a kite.

Evelyn burst out into peals of laughter as she ran on the field, pulling on the kite string. Despite the beads of sweat trickling down her face, she enjoyed the experience tremendously.

“Mom! Look! The kite is flying!” Evelyn turned back to shout at Amelia as she ran while pulling at the kite string.

Amelia saw Evelyn running as fast as lightning on the grass and said with a smile, “Slow down, honey. Don’t trip.”

The moment she said so, she noticed a bunch of people walking in Evelyn’s direction.

Christopher, Nicole, and a few other people were walking in, chatting and laughing heartily.

When Evelyn turned back to look at Amelia with a smile, Amelia yelled with her brows furrowed, “Watch out!”

Just then, Evelyn bumped into a pair of legs so hard, she collapsed on the field.

Evelyn winced with pain and looked up with tears in her eyes. That was when she saw Christopher looking down at her.

She sat stunned for a moment before stuttering, “D-Dad?”
