Christopher looked indifferently at Evelyn and didn’t say anything in response. He didn’t look like he was looking at his own daughter, but at a stranger instead.

Evelyn knew she had made a mistake and lowered her head helplessly.

“He’s not your dad! Don’t go around calling people that!” Nathan jumped out from behind and glared at Evelyn.” Dad never admitted to having you as his daughter. He’s my dad, and no one else’s. Stay away from my dad!”

Amelia hurried over to help Evelyn up.

Evelyn scuffed her elbows and knees, and there was even mud on them. The sharp pain made tears fall down her cheeks.

“Does it hurt?” Amelia hugged her daughter tight, her heart aching for her.

Evelyn shook her head.

Nicole looked down at Nathan and warned, “Don’t talk nonsense.”

Nathan pouted, but said nothing further. He didn’t like his stepmom, who used to always bully him at home. She refused to let him eat anything, do anything, or play anything All she did was force him to do homework and torture him.

“Mrs. Zephyr, you brought Evelyn here to play!” Nicole said as she held Nathan’s hand and smiled at Amelia. “Just as well that the two siblings can get to know each other and have some fun together.”

“Indeed,” Luke said with a chuckle. “Taking care of children should be something handed to a housewife like Amelia to do. She’s great at it, after all.”

Amelia sneered. Why were these people haunting her like ghosts? She seemed to be bumping into them everywhere.

Before she said anything, Christopher looked at her and said flatly, “Be careful next time.”

It sounded like a warning, telling her that he would spare her this time, but that might not be the case next time.

Evelyn took the initiative to apologize before Amelia said anything, “I’m sorry, Uncle. I didn’t see you there.”

She had bumped into him, and she should be the one apologizing.

Just then, Nathan opened his arms wide before Christopher and said, “Dad, I’m tired Carry me.”

Christopher gave him a warm smile and carried him in his arms. Evelyn’s eyes were filled with envy when she saw Nathan being carried in his father’s arms.

Nicole said, “Chris, you’re totally spoiling him. How could a boy be so whiny?”

They looked just like a happy family.

From the start to the end, Christopher treated Amelia and Evelyn as though they were strangers.

How ironic! He told Amelia that he wasn’t free today to discuss the investment, but here he was, bringing his happy family of three to a holiday resort.

Amelia carried Evelyn in her arms and left, not wanting to see a second longer of them being loving to each other. She had to return to the resort to treat Evelyn’s wounds.

Evelyn’s eyes were red and swollen. She remained sullen throughout the entire journey back to their room. She just couldn’t figure out why her dad didn’t like her. Why was everyone saying that she wasn’t her dad’s daughter?

Amelia paused for a moment. “Do you want a new dad?”

Evelyn lowered her head. “I just think that everyone else has a dad…”

She never had one. During her kindergarten’s parent-teacher meetings, all her friends had dads except for her.

Whenever her own dad attended the parent-teacher meetings, he would always come in the capacity of her brother’s dad, and she had to address him as uncle.

Amelia’s heart clenched as she felt pain shooting up her chest, as though someone was slicing her heart up knife. She didn’t know how to answer her daughter’s question.

She then gave Amelia a tight hug.

Amelia’s heart ached as tears welled up in her eyes. The more sensible her daughter was, the more it tore her up inside.

“I’ll be by your side no matter what,” Amelia assured her with a nod.

She brought Evelyn back to their room to treat her wounds. Then, they got some rest.
