Reborn Without You (Amelia and Christopher) novel Chapter 114

Chapter 114

From where did he get the idea that Amelia liked eating prawns?

He probably confused her with someone else.

Dorothy started scolding Christopher, reminding him to care more about his wife and stop burying himself in his work.

Christopher patiently responded to every single reminder of hers.

Midway through the meal, Dorothy looked at Amelia and said, “It’s been three years since Adelaide passed on, and her third death anniversary is right around the corner. Are you starting to plan for it?”

Amelia’s grip tightened over her spoon.

Her maternal grandmother’s name was Adelaide Miller, and she was Dorothy’s good friend. The two grew up together. Dorothy cared very much about her good friend’s death anniversary and missed Adelaide dearly.

Traditionally speaking, the third death anniversary was usually a grand affair. It marked the soul’s complete departure from this world and its official transition to becoming an ancestor of the family.

It was imperative for the death anniversary ceremony to be more magnificent than usual.

“Yes, I’ve already begun planning for it,” Amelia said.

Dorothy asked them out for a meal, also to discuss the death anniversary celebrations.

“Chris can help you with the planning. Don’t do it all by yourself. You have to take care of the children, too. Will you even have the time?” Dorothy said.

In Amelia’s past life, when they were celebrating Adelaide’s third death anniversary, Christopher took Nathan overseas on a business trip and claimed to be unable to rush back in time.

Now that Amelia thought about it, he probably went looking for Nicole, which explained his inability to return.

Amelia had been very close to Adelaide, who was a very important figure in her life.

In this life, however, Nicole returned to their home country earlier than planned. Still, Christopher probably didn’t want to be a part of the celebrations.

Amelia herself didn’t want to be in too close contact with Christopher, so she said, “I can handle it by myself.”

After the meal, Amelia made up an excuse of needing to go back to the office to work overtime to avoid having to pretend to go home with Christopher.

“Why are you working overtime?” Dorothy glared at Christopher. “Are you abusing Mia?”

Dorothy had no idea that Amelia had long resigned from Zephyr Group.

Christopher said with a half-smile, “I wouldn’t dare.”

Amelia couldn’t outtalk Dorothy and had to sit in Christopher’s car.

In the front passenger seat, she realized that the style in the interior of the car had changed. All of her decorations were gone and replaced by items that looked more gender-eutral and practical.

It was clearly Nicole’s style. There was clearly a change in the female owner of this car.

The cozy home Amelia had worked so hard to manage had vanished into thin air, with all her hard work thrown out of the window and torn apart. Her home looked nothing like what it used to be.

Amelia looked out of the window. All these no longer had anything to do with her.

She was beginning to feel very suffocated in the car.

“Tell me if you need any help planning your grandma’s third death anniversary,” Christopher remarked casually.

Amelia thought he was just trying to put on an act before Dorothy. Her gaze landed on Christopher’s face, and she said coldly, “There’s no need for that, especially given how things are between us.”

Before Christopher could say anything in response, his phone rang.

Amelia didn’t mean to look, but she saw the name of the incoming caller from the corner of her eyes: Darling.

She chuckled inwardly as she shifted her gaze away. At Whitmore Manor, he did call Nicole that.

When he answered the call, Nicole’s voice sounded through the phone. “Chris, I’m done here. Will you come pick me up?”

Christopher fell silent as he glanced at his watch, his brows furrowing slightly.

Amelia understood what that meant. He was going to pick Nicole up, and she had to give up her seat for her.

Rather than being chased out of the car by him, Amelia decided to get out of the car of her own accord.

Amelia lowered her head and unbuckled her seatbelt. The moment she tried opening the car door, she realized that it was locked.

She turned to look at Christopher with a frown.
