Chapter 120

Nothing regarding her was as important as Nicole.

Dorothy looked at Amelia. “What did he say when you called him to ask just now?”

Amelia pursed her lips. “He’s busy.”

Felix scoffed. “There’s never an end to earning money. Why is he still busy with work on such an important day?”

Amelia said nothing.

He wasn’t actually busy at work. She just wasn’t important enough to him. To be accurate, he had never cared about her before.

Dorothy was very upset, but she tried to appease Felix’s anger before giving Christopher a call.

This time, he didn’t even answer it.

Dorothy’s face turned stormier.

Right before the ceremony was about to begin, Jonathan walked in.

“Why didn’t anyone tell me about such an important event today?”

Claire’s face fell the moment she saw him.

Amelia’s brows furrowed as her face turned cold at the sight of Jonathan. She stood before her mother and said, You’re not welcome here.”

He clearly came uninvited, because he had his eyes on Claire’s Ascent Corporation.

He had an affair with Tania, yet he refused to divorce Claire Tania’s daughter, Nicole, was also the third party to her marriage with Christopher. The mother and daughter were both homewreckers and tormentors of the women in their family.

Jonathan frowned and said coldly, “Don’t you know how to respect your elders? I’m your father. Shouldn’t I attend your maternal grandmother’s death anniversary event?”

Any businessman who was still married would at least attend such family affairs for his wife’s sake.

Even Jonathan managed to make it just in time.

Christopher, on the other hand, refused to come. He had never respected the marriage, anyway.

Amelia realized that the filthiest thing in this world was on’s self-respect.

Claire took a step forward, her brows furrowed, but Felix stopped her. He stepped forward instead and stood right before Amelia. “Are you here to cause trouble?”

Amelia looked at her uncle standing up for her and her mother, despite his condition rendering him frail and weak. Tears welled up in her eyes as she turned to look away. Her uncle was always the one standing up and seeking justice for her, be it during her schooling or working days.

Her uncle had taken on the role of a father in her life,

Yet, life played a cruel joke on her, bringing sickness upon felix and turning the strong, powerful man of her memories so weak and frail. Despite his physical condition Felix was still standing before her and her mother, defending them.

Amelia took a deep breath and wiped the tears away from the corner of her eyes. “Uncle, go back and rest. I’ll talk to him.”

Felix looked at her reddened eyes and exclaimed, “Don’t fear. As long as I’m around, I’ll never allow anyone to bully you and your mother.”

Upon realizing that no one there welcomed him, Jonathan poked displeased.

He also saw Dorothy at the event.

“What a happy family we have here.”

Jonathan chuckled in disdain and turned to look at Dorothy He spoke in hushed tones, making sure that Dorothy couldn’t hear him.

“You know Christopher only has eyes for Nicole. As your father, I don’t want to see you being so obstinate about it. You two should just get a divorce. It’ll be good for you, Nicole, and everyone else. Otherwise, tongues will just wag about you being unable to keep your man by your side.”

Amelia felt her breath caught in her lungs.

Every word of his was like a knife piercing through her heart.

and Jonathan saw the change in Amelia’s face and went on, “You’ve tried so hard to please him over the years, what did that get you? He’s not even here for your maternal grandmother’s third death anniversary! It’s pointless to drag things out. Divorce him and give them your blessings, and Chris might even thank you for that.” The more Amelia listened to what Jonathan had to say, the stronger the urge she had to laugh.

Was she the one refusing to get a divorce, or was someone else dragging things out and not going ahead with one? Christopher was the one dragging things out because he wanted to appease Dorothy for fear that something bad might happen to her.

Dorothy was advanced in years. The day she became senile would be the day Christopher married Nicole.

He was dragging things out because he wanted to have his cake and eat it too, but when the time came, he would kick Amelia out of the Zephyr household without any hesitation.

She had nothing more to talk to Christopher about and had already appealed for a divorce.

As for the divorce itself, she would find time to talk to Dorohy about it and mentally prepare Dorothy for it.

Amelia was about to say something when a cold voice interupted her.

“I’m sorry, I was held back and came late.”
