Chapter 121
Christopher was late, but he was finally here.
He was all dressed in black, looking mature and reserved as he held a bouquet of white chrysanthemum flowers. As a powerful and influential figure, he hardly smiled and had an intimidating aura about him.
Jonathan immediately shut up at the sight of Christopher.
The look on his face didn’t change much, though.
He wasn’t exactly surprised by Christopher’s appearance. He shot Amelia a look before bursting out in laughter.
Christopher looked at Amelia and asked, unperturbed, “I’m not too late, am I?”
He spoke tenderly, as though they were a loving couple.
He would only behave this way before Dorothy.
Amelia looked at him in disbelief, not expecting him to come.
He was still with Nicole when she called him earlier.
Evelyn was very glad to see her dad.
She approached him and greeted him, “Dad.”
“Good girl,” Christopher said as he caressed her head.
Evelyn knew deep down in her heart that her dad was only her dad in front of her great-grandmother. He would always respond to her greeting under such circumstances.
Yet, in front of outsiders, her dad was only her uncle.
Amelia took a deep breath, feeling uncomfortable at the sight of her daughter wanting to be close to her father.
Evelyn lacked fatherly love, and it was not wrong of her to want to be close to her dad. However, Amelia couldn’t bear seeing Evelyn always being treated coldly. It always made her feel suffocated inside.
It was a problem she could never resolve.
Dorothy walked over and started scolding Christopher. “What in the world were you busy with? You came so late, the ceremony is about to begin!”
She smacked him hard and ordered, “Quick, go apologize to your uncle and mother.”
Christopher’s gaze swept past Amelia.
He first went to pay his respects to Adelaide and put the flowers down on the altar before going over to greet Felix and Claire.
Christopher made sure to treat the dead with respect and honor.
“Please go back,” Amelia said to Jonathan, her back ramrod straight and the look in her eyes cold.
Jonathan scoffed; he was starting to find things here dull and meaningless. He was here just to make an appearance, after all.
After he left, Felix asked Christopher, “Nathan isn’t here today?”
Christopher said, “Nathan is sick and can’t come. I made him stay at home so the nanny can take care of him.”

Felix nodded. Children should stay at home instead of being out and about when sick. Felix knew Nathan had always been weak since he was born.
“Now that everyone is here, let’s begin.”
The ceremony took a total of about ten minutes.
During the entire time, when everyone’s attention was not on them, Christopher’s gaze never landed on Amelia. He was still cold and distant to her as usual, as though they were mere strangers.
Amelia knew clearly that he was only here because of Dorothy. He was worried about Dorothy getting angry, and wasn’t here for her and Adelaide’s sake.
After the ceremony was over, everyone started making their way to the grave site.
Dorothy decided to pass, knowing that she couldn’t take it physically.
Christopher went to a corner to take a call, and Amelia could see from afar that the look in his eyes was gentler and softer.
She immediately knew who the caller was.
Winona stood by Amelia and glared at Christopher. “How could you tolerate that disgusting man? You should just tear through his mask right here!”
She herself couldn’t stand it anymore.
Amelia retracted her gaze and said softly, “It’s my grandma’s third death anniversary today. I don’t want to cause a scene. What’s more, things have been like this between us for so long, it’s pointless trying to force things. I’ll find time to talk to my uncle and Grandma about our divorce.”
Winona gnashed her teeth and clenched her fists.
After Christopher hung up, he walked over to Amelia. He said in a low voice, “I have something to attend to and won’t be able to visit her grave. I’ve arranged for a vehicle to send you all there.”
Christopher had always been diplomatic and smooth, making sure that everything was taken care of.
