Chapter 122
Why would such a detailed and thoughtful man know nothing about her, if not for the fact that he completely didn’t care about her?
He just didn’t want to waste his time on her.
His behavior was practically faultless, and no one could pick on him or stop him from going
Despite being upset that he was leaving early, Felix and Claire couldn’t say more about it. At the very least, he was present during the ceremony.
They could only let him leave.
Dorothy glanced at him. “Why are you in such a hurry to leave? You’ll have to come back for dinner tonight.”
He glanced at his watch and said vaguely, “I’ll see about that later.”
When he left, he turned to look at Amelia and said, “Take care of yourself and Evelyn. I’m going off.”
He was always so perfect before Dorothy.
Amelia found it ironic. She could only receive her husband’s feigned care and concern during specific times.
There was a light drizzle today. At the grave site, the Lanes look turns to pay their respects to Adelaide.
The sight of her grandmother’s tomb made tears well up in Amelia’s eyes as memories replayed in her mind.
After everything was over, Felix started feeling weak and turning pale.
Claire held onto him and said, “I’ll send you back to the hospital.”
“Uncle…” Amelia looked at him with worry.
“Don’t worry,” Felix assured her. “I won’t die just yet. Just bring me to the car and I’ll be fine after sitting and resting for a while.”
Amelia followed Felix to the car to make sure he was fine.
He was the one who insisted on participating in all of today’s proceedings.
“Don’t bother persuading me otherwise. I’m stuck in the hospital from now on and probably won’t have a chance to be with the family like today. In fact, the next time the family gathers like this will probably be on the day I die.”
Claire’s eyes turned red as she exclaimed, “Don’t talk nonsense!”
Amelie felt a dull ache in her chest as her heart clenched. She got out of the car to compose herself, her eyes still red with unshed tears.
Meanwhile, Winona crouched down next to Evelyn as she scrolled through her phone.
She chanced upon a photo that Nicole posted an hour ago.
“It’s a blessing to have family with you when you visit loved ones who have passed on,” the caption read.
It was a photo of a man’s silhouette as he stood under a tree
Winona recognized the clothes the man was wearing. It was Christopher!
“Whoa, he’s a master of time management indeed.”

Amelia approached her and heard her mumbling under her breath.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
Winona furrowed her brows as she put her phone away. “Nothing.”
She knew that Amelia had sacrificed much of her youth for Christopher’s sake and bore a child for him, and took care of his children. She even gave up on her passion and career for him.
Amelia herself was the only one who knew how deeply and how painfully she loved Christopher, and the torment she went through for the sake of her love.
Winona really didn’t want to add salt to her wound.
She decided not to show Amelia the photo Nicole posted online. It made her so angry, so it would probably only make Amelia miserable if she were to see it.
Amelia nodded. “I’m going to get some water for my uncle.
When she walked out of the supermarket and headed toward the car park, she spotted Christopher, who had to leave early to attend to “something.”
Nicole was holding onto his arm, and they were sharing an umbrella under the drizzle.
She chuckled to herself.
She pretended not to see them, but Nicole just had to greet her.
“What a coincidence, Mrs. Zephyr!”
Amelia ignored her.
Christopher looked at her with cold, distant eyes.
“What are you doing here today?” Nicole asked with a smile. “My maternal grandmother’s grave site was in a bad state, and I asked Christopher to accompany me as I helped clean things up a bit. I was even thinking of shifting her grave site here. The environment here is pretty good.”
Amelia wanted to ignore her, but her face turned pale at Nicole’s words.
