Chapter 136
Just then, Christopher walked out leisurely from his office.
Nicole stood up. “Chris, let’s have Mediterranean food for lunch.”
Christopher stuck his hands in his pockets, but his eyes warmed up at the sight of Nicole. “Sure.”
As Amelia and Jasper left, she overheard what Nicole said.
Christopher actually didn’t fancy Mediterranean food. Whenever Amelia tried whipping up Mediterranean dishes, he never tried them.
Or perhaps it wasn’t that he didn’t like the cuisine. He simply didn’t want to enjoy it with her.
One would always be willing to do anything with their loved ones, even if it were something they didn’t like. The difference between the presence of love and the lack of it was indeed stark.
Jasper surveyed Amelia’s face closely.
She looked indifferent, no different from her usual countenance. It was as if she didn’t care how close Nicole and Christopher were.
Although he knew that they were on the verge of divorce, they were technically still married. Yet, her husband was behaving intimately with another woman right in front of her and blatantly going on a date with said woman.
Conversely, the married couple looked more like strangers.
Anyone in Amelia’s shoes would feel terrible.
“What do you feel like having for lunch?” he asked.
“Anything’s fine,” Amelia said before changing the topic back to work.
She didn’t have the brain capacity to think about much, aside from focusing on taking the next step forward.
In the afternoon, Amelia and Jasper went looking for Mr. Hale with their proposal.
Mr. Hale looked through it and thoroughly criticized it, remarking that Amelia had become worse than before. He then moved on to talk about technology innovation.
“You never used to make such mistakes.”
Amelia humbly accepted his feedback and criticisms.
Back then, she had insisted on leaving Institute 511 and gav up on her studies for the sake of marrying Christopher.
The ice might have broken between her and Mr. Hale after their previous meal, but he still refused to acknowledge her as his student,
Mr. Hale’s criticisms of her right now actually made Amelia feel slightly happy. At the very least, he was willing to
mentor her now.
She was intending to work closely with the government on this project, and she knew there were still many areas of improvement. She was confident that the proposal was more forward-looking under Professor Hale’s guidance.
After they left, Jasper said, “Professor Hale is harsh on the outside, but a softie on the inside. He has very high hopes for you.”
“I know,” Amelia said. “I won’t disappoint him this time.”

Jasper saw the clear determination in Amelia’s eyes. Suddenly, he felt like he was looking at the Amelia of the past, who was filled with fervor and radiance.
He smiled.
“It’s all over. Don’t keep harping on it and burdening yourself with it. No one blames you for it. Who doesn’t make mistakes in their younger days?” he comforted her gently.
He was worried that Amelia was still brooding over what had happened in the past.
Jasper had always been attentive and sensitive to the feelings of people around him.
Amelia nodded in acknowledgment.
When she returned to the office, she continued working on the proposal. Soon, it was time to fetch Evelyn from her kindergarten.
Amelia headed there right after work.
After bringing Evelyn home, Amelia recalled that she had to go to her marital home tomorrow to take care of Nathan.
She asked Evelyn if she wanted to stay there for the night.
As obedient as always, Evelyn said yes.
The next day after school, Nathan sat in Amelia’s car together with Evelyn.
Pride was etched all over his face.
He knew Amelia would come back. As he had expected, here she was with Evelyn in tow.
The moment he settled down in the car, he started demanding the dishes he wanted to eat.
“I want seafood porridge today. As for tomorrow, I want Eggs Benedict for breakfast.”
