Amelia's heart skipped a beat. She was still on the phone as she ran to the roadside to hail a cab.
Felix's voice sounded grim.
"Although Ascent Corporation received funding for the project, it still requires many partners. Your mom led a team in entertaining and hosting various conglomerates, but they all ended up being poached by ACE Technologies."
Amelia's brows furrowed.
Felix went on, "In order to stop the potential clients and partners from being poached, she had been drinking with them and trying to persuade them. Yesterday, she was hospitalized for gastric bleeding. She needs a next-of-kin to sign the consent for today's surgery, but she didn't even let me inform you."
Amelia's heart sank.
"I'm headed toward the hospital right now."
"Don't worry too much. I visited her at the hospital yesterday and the doctor said she's fine. She came to the hospital fast enough."
Amelia heaved a sigh of relief and told herself to calm down so that she could straighten out her thoughts.
"I know about ACE Technologies' projects. As much as they need partners, there is a quota. How could they possibly need so many partners? They can't possibly be allowed to disrupt the market like this."
Felix's voice turned cold. "Are you going to divorce Christopher?"
Amelia paused for a moment, her grip tightening over her phone.
"Well…" Amelia's voice sank. "What does that have to do with this?"
"Tania is winning the favor of major suppliers and partners by using her status as Christopher's mother-in-law. Those suppliers and partners aren't fools. How could Tania claim that identity for herself and poach so many partners and clients without Christopher's implicit permission?"
Amelia's face turned dark with anger.
She didn't expect things to turn out this way, or for Tania to go so far.
How could Christopher condone their repeated attempts at snatching Ascent Corporation's partners?
Why was he doing this? To support his future mother-in-law's company at the expense of her mother's company?
He clearly knew that Ascent Corporation was the lifeline of the Lane family, yet he completely disregarded it and was bent on destroying it.
What he was doing was basically driving Ascent Corporation to a corner.
Christopher was truly cold and heartless toward Amelia.
If they failed to complete the project on time, the 60 million dollars would all be in vain. In fact, they might lose even more than that.
"I'm the useless one here…"
Felix felt terrible making Amelia take the burden of this situation, and his heart ached for her.
"Uncle, what is family for?"
-
When Amelia arrived at the hospital, Claire was preparing to go for surgery.
Her face was pale and every move was strenuous for her.
Sweat beaded on her brow out of pain from her stomach. She pressed a hand over her stomach while using her other hand to send voice messages regarding work, giving instructions to her team on how they could secure more potential partners.
Amelia's heart broke at the scene. She stepped forward and snatched her mother's phone away.
"Stop working!"
